Ludum Dare 37 — December 9th-11th, 2016 — Theme: One Room

Well, Mike ran in to problems getting working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Save the relics

by 60fingers - Jam Entry

As a priest of an isolated magnificent church, you're surrounded by a huge crowd of intruding monsters. Your task is to protect the relics with your life. Move objects, evade demons and watch out for next incoming monsters. Stress, threat and your own tininess will define your game experience!

Use the arrow keys to move the priest. The flashing windows indicate where the monsters will appear next. Save the relics by pushing them to a save spot or kill the monsters by making them run into your altar. You cannot push any object to the outermost tiles.
Each not-destroyed relic will give you one point each second. The game is over if you have no relics left or if you get hit by a monster.

If you have the possibilities, we strongly recommend using the Windows executable instead of the web version of our game!
The web build is pre-alpha and does not have any particle effects. Also some of the text might not work... Sorry!

The overall idea is nice I think :-)
No power or weapons (other than, perhaps, the altar), just doing the best you can do in the situation.

Sometimes a few waves of 'nothing' happen (none of the monsters walk in the direction of any relics), and that reduces the stress you intended, maybe.

Very nice job! This game was surprisingly fun. I got about 2k points before I got a bit bored and let the game end. Was the "difficulty level" ever supposed to get harder than 4? It seemed like it stalled out a bit there.

The graphics were great, and I love the lightning flashes. It really set the mood, and all the art was really nice to look at.

The sounds that the demons made when they died got a bit grating after a while. I also felt like it was too easy to "accidentally" push a block by barely touching a corner, but maybe that added to the "chaos" of the game. Also, I had several waves in a row where I didn't have to move my relics at all, it might have been better to really cycle through ALL of the windows before letting a window be used again, that way you would have to constantly move a bit more.

Still, great job!

Graphics and sound were very well done. I really like the game concept as well. You've taken the appeal of a puzzle game and given it the arcade element that dusty old quarter crusaders like me love.

This is one of my favourite entries so far. The concept is unique, the gameplay is fun and satisfying, and there's some strategy to how you position your relics. Its simple and well-executed. Great job!

Great concept, simple and fun. The bouncy/scaley animations are a top notch idea.

Thank you for your comments!
The difficulty level actually does not get harder than 4 yet. To be honest, we did not expect anyone to handle level 4 with that ease. :-D I was very surprised when our animation designer managed to achieve more than 1300 points right after the submission at 4am with all that lack of sleep! :-D
And while everyone around me seems the get past 2k points easily, I must confess that my own score did not climb above 1000 yet.
Obviously I suck at our own game... :'D

Thank you for your request for a Mac build!
I'm going to make Linux and Mac builds as soon as possible, but I've never done that before, so it might take a little while. :)

Great game!
If there is one thing I would improve, it's the difficulty curve. Occasionally the game feels slow, but it's really clever nevertheless!

I thought the idea of moving things out of the way of the enemy was an interesting change of pace. Graphics and audio were decent. Nice job!
