Santa's Seasonal Slayfest

By Gareth Williams (@garethiw), Carl Hughes (@devilqube) and Paul Yendley (@gredgie)

Instead of coal this year, Santa has in fact thrown two bad children into his gladiatorial arena, where they must appease a crowd of elves, twisted from their mindless work in Santa's joyous workshops.

Fight your way through as many waves of enemies as you can either on your own or with a keyboard buddy, let the bodies pile up as your spectators throw all manner of weaponry and items to keep the entertainment going!

The game can be played by one or two players.

To Play:

Cursor Arrows - Movement
Return - Attack
Backspace - Discard Weapon

WASD - Movement
Space - Attack
Tab - Discard Weapon

Or use 360 pads - Left stick + A/B

This is a very dark game, fun though. Has some lag issues. :/

Very cool! A bit hard on the hardware for me, but still playable. Looks and plays great. Love the sound effects! Nice work!

Quite fun, but had a hard time with the controls/view of the game. Liked the idea though with the crowd throwing in weapons, good job!

Loved the humor and audio effects. I think a bit more feedback on the hits would make it a bit more polished. Awesome entry!

This is pretty cool haha :D
The controls are somewhat interesting because of the 3d movement.
It works but you need to get used to it.

haha, merry christmas!
Funny idea. It would probably be more fun with a 2nd player, as the feeling of competition would probably enhance the experience a bit. Good game and nice idea!

What sort of crimes did we commit to be put in an arena with santa? Very funny and overall fun game, very well made as well.

lack of controll for the player leads to a mediocre gameplay. Anyways, i liked the humor and the graphics

Haha! This was fun. I like the idea of Santa's evil gladiator death pit. I agree with one of the other commenters that some more feedback on when you've landed a successful hit would be helpful.

And as much as I loved all the bodies on the floor it got a little visually confusing. Maybe a body zamboni could scoot through the stages? Lol.

Anyway solid work!

I like a lot about this game, so I won't really go into it too much. Graphics, control, gameplay, enemies, HUD, feedback, and sound effects are all solid, and the whole game feels pretty polished or finished. I am a big fan of those beat em up co-op games like TMNT 2/3 and the Double Dragon games from NES. I am used to melee fighting guys by walking up to their "depth" on the screen, so I was resorting to melee as much as possible, especially that big spear/halberd looking thing. The snowballs were my least favorite because they seemed ineffective at times. The snowballs would pile up in front of the guy you hit, creating a barrier that prevented you from hitting him with more snowballs. Sometimes I wished I could throw the snowballs forwards and backwards instead of just sideways, since it would be easier to line up the shots that way, but I know that would create a bunch of extra work and complicate things.

Well that was pretty grim. I liked the whole 2d sprites on a 3d plane approach and the gameplay itself was really addictive.

The game's a bit chaotic, but lots of fun. It's kinda hilarious though the theme is sort of dark at the same time. Nice work!

Very cool graphical style; it worked well with the collision physics to give things a unique feel and effective feel for this kinda pit brawler.

I was happy when I finally realized the snowmen were throwing carrots.

Once one player died, the other played for a while but it became a bit boring for both. A way to revive would've been nice.

The graphic style is pretty cool, though you have to be carefull to keep the brightness of the sprites similar to that of the other elements.

The health bar is way to far up in the screen, and kind of tiny, so it's hard to look at it while you're playing.

It was really funny to see the corpses accumulating and leaving less and less space to move freely, it makes for a nice mechanic.

Good job!

That was fun. Given all the blood I guess they are throwing ice balls! The audio was cute. :)
