Today seen a total overall of the level system to allow for concise YAML descriptions of the levels and progressions, along with player and enemy death stuff. Which means we should be able to get some serious work done for tutorials and early levels tomorrow evening. On top of this we’ve been working hard on getting some excellent music into it.

Tonight’s teaser:  The title screen! (click for better version)

Wohoo, we have a title! Funky Knight!

Here’s a draft of our start screen!

The brain icon on the right looks like a butt, what do you think?

At least, I think I’m halfway done. I added a nice snow effect, and it adds a lot of atmosphere.early7Most of the art is done, and I’m working on finishing title and end screens. Then, I’ll make more levels and add sound and music. I think that’s it!

miNOMalism FINAL – those pheromones won’t disperse themselves

miNOMalism is a minimalistic food chain ecosystem simulator, with you being its lowest part. However, thanks to pheromone distribution, you can control bigger creatures and keep the races from going extinct and thus the whole ecosystem in a balance.

You can play online or download a Windows version:

Only a few people (outside the LD community) has played so far, saying it was fun and “damn, HARD!”

I’m pretty satisfied that we’ve managed to balance the ecosystem to be manageably stable and still quirky. Planning all the rules before hand in a strict manner with no loose ends probably helped.

This was my 10th anniversary Ludum Dare and 3rd Jam, but it was fun and exhausting as always! :)

Thanks to my teammate Eatacay, we’ve got a great music and some minimalistic graphics :]

I’ve been quiet so far because I allready had the bad experience in the passed 24th LD to state something at the beginning and then fail…(this may happen again who knows:D) ..anyway this time i think I’ll manage to create something playable in the compo timeframe. That’s because I stepped on a hard ground extending my Attract 4kb engine. It’s true that the 4kb restriction kept my enthusiasm on developping that engine (its hardly acceptable as game) and that’s my main connection to the theme Minimalism – I’m forcing myself to keep the game in the same simple manner, while adding new features and functionalities.. What’s been done so far: a title page and some ui, created a base for the enemy and some specific abilities for the units, like EMP shockwave :p.. I’ll update my progress here.

The game is complete. All I need to do now after I awake up from sleep is to create character/enemy sprites.

That said, I’ve grown fond of the purple blob, especially since I might oversleep the deadline, but submit anyway.

An official title!

My game is officially known as “EpiCat”. Why is it official just now? Because I started the title screen!

Titles! Why do they always have to have titles?

I swear, the hardest part of LD is naming my damn entries. Of course, that’s usually because they’re not worth naming. Here, though, the problem is different. What do I call this thing?

I also tried very, very hard not to use the phrase ‘build the level’ anywhere in the help text. Because by total accident I did LD #9 instead of LD #14…

Title Screen Up

I have an idea, a pretty lame one that should be kind of funny at least, and have implemented a title screen!
