I am joining Stexe for Ludum Dare Jam for the first time! We’re struggling with ideas on the You Are The Monster theme, like everybody else.

Let’s make some noise, we are in.

Jam jam jam. Jam 4th time!
Every time alone. But this time no, and yes.
This time we are here with my half-ended-not-ended framework, my cute Pysia-Mysia! Pysia-Mysia is my little small-code-girl.
I shouldn’t love her(‘ it’ ?! ) because she isn’t beauty, she hasn’t rich interior, but she is… easy. 😀
Our love is simple system: Me + she = game, good fun, no questions, something like this:

May the force be with me and my framework. Here we go!

Och! I forgot. Dubstep is with us too. Dubstep is hard, spicy girl. I love both of them. Let’s go!

Blitz and I will probably not be in the Mini LD \\, because I need a lot more time to learn. My “learning project” is going to be a small platformer with the main character as a popsicle. It’s basically going to have everything I can fit, and everything I learn. If you’re interested, here’s where I’ll be keeping my progress:

Edit: Here’s a video of me playing the first(and only) level!
Level 1 of Boris the Popsicle!

The Escapist – Post LD

  • I don’t know how to draw.
  • I don’t know how to compose music.
  • I’m not a fast coder.

But somehow I managed to send something for this, my first LD.

I thought about making use of my previously designed Framework, as I posted before, but it turned out to be useless for what I wanted to do. In fact, most of the bugs I had were because of the framework, so at a point I decided to don’t use it. I ended up embedding all the animations by myself, using Actionscript 3 default listeners, and only relying on TweenMax for the animations.

Talking about animations, I mentioned that I don’t know how to draw, so I decided to make easy drawings, but that wouldn’t look good… That’s why I decided to create the line-moving drawings (I don’t know what is the actual name, I’m sure it has one). Also, glow always looks good, so everything was glowed by code.

At the beginning I didn’t like what I was doing, but after I started adding animations, I really liked what I was achieving, I just couldn’t believe it.

I really wished I could have done other scenes (The Escapist tied on a wood plank, going to a chainsaw), but the animations took me so long to make, and the code was getting so messy, I decided to put just one scene.

The code is far from perfect (but it’s really close to hardcode-perfect), and I have some random bugs that attacks and freeze the game without saying a thing, but I think it’s playable (I hope so!).

All I want to say is thanks for making me draw and thanks for making me code fast. Thanks for this opportunity. It was beautiful to see people all over the world uploading pictures of what were they eating, pictures about their workstations, their design docs… It was an amazing experience, and I hope I’m back next time!

This was my first time competing in Ludum Dare, and I spent most of the time trying to learn java. I finally gave up on that briefly, and spent 2 hours making this game. It’s not all that good, and I never got around to putting in any RPG elements other than having variables for strength and dexterity….which were never really used in game, only increased a bit on level up. I tried to make it funny, but to each his own. Hopefully by next time, I will know enough about java to make a game with it. 😀
