This is my first Ludum Dare, so I thought I would just do the jam rather than stress out and end up not doing it at all.

My friend will be helping me, and I will be using some scripts I wrote for unity last year for the base (renderer, map parser, that ok?), so hopefully I will have plenty of time to get some gameplay done. I had a few sprites I was using for the base, but I will do them all from scratch, because I want my pixeling judged. I also make sort of chiptunes music, but a bit more beat rock… Im calling it erocktronic. I might do tracks from scratch if there is time, but maybe just use some of my existing tracks and opt out of that category.

I will be using:

– Unity

– Tiled Map Editor

– Cosmigo Pro Motion, Pyxel Edit, Sprite Anything (iOS)

– Sublime Text 3

– BFXR or maybe record sound effects

 

I will try to stream, but if it makes me uncomfortable or slows me down too much,

I will just record it and upload it later.

ZOMG LD 30! time flies!

This time I made a promise to myself to make a multiplayer game so this week I spent some time looking at the Unity multiplayer features!

I’ll also be streaming from a stable connection this time, for everyone to see…

Anyone else doing LD here in Berlin?

I’m terrible with A.I.

It’s really bad.

So that was a few hours ago, and since then the A.I. has improved. It’s still not good, but it’s following the player decently.

Outside of that, we’ve gotten an idea in and started working on it for a while, having spent the majority of the day figuring out how player movement will work. Not much is getting done, but it’s nothing to fuss over. If nothing else, valuable experience will be gained working with Unity and each other, and in my case using Git.

Next up is working with raycasts to figure out a good way to accomplish base construction. The plan in the game is for you to be some guy in a field who needs to build a base so he can fly into space to get away from baddies. If time allows, you’ll also have to fight space baddies before getting away by upgrading speed.

Odds are, the full idea won’t finish in 48 hours, but we’ll see what we can do. Also, in addition to my stream my friend is also streaming development occasionally. Find him here if you want to watch!

Third Time

Man, that second time was abysmal.  I’m just going to be using SDL, LMMS, Audacity and the GIMP for this one.  Before I was trying to also limp along with an engine that isn’t fully functional and trying to add more functionality as I went.  Next time, though, I’ll try and do 3D again.  As SteamOS is released today, I may try it out and get my entry running on it, if possible.

As usual, Jenkins will be handling the continuous integration and there will be Windows stable builds here, unstable here and Linux stable builds here, unstable here.  The GitHub repository is here, which I’ll have a simple window up and running in before the competition begins, and I’ll be streaming here.

I’ll probably be getting a late start as it begins early in the morning for me.  All design work will most likely be done with a text editor which will also be in the GitHub repository.  Assets will not be stored on there, instead they will be on the FTP site which I’m either going to have the assets download (not very likely, as time is limited) or bundle them with the builds from Jenkins.  During the event, I’ll make log entries as necessary.
