Hello world! I’m first time here, so excuse me If I do something wrong. In collaboration @orangemagik & @bogimp we brain-stormed yestarday a lot of themes. This one of them. It has not yet approved by us.
Hi, I’m noc,
Making the bad guys was much more easy than hero, but I drawn a lot of sketches just to be sure it would be easy to animate in a 2D game.
If the character is easy to understand in a quick-made sketch, it’s sure it will be easy to animate
I use watercolors to see very quickly the concurrences between the different characters. The main difficulty was to have a color harmony between them and be sure that the player can recognize which enemy it’s keeping focused on the shrimp and the next star it has to reach.
more sketches soon, it’s time to play.
I thought I’d upload a few of my sketches from the game design process.
A list of initial game ideas on the theme "Tiny World". I ended up combining the "tower defense with pixel sized monsters" and "Insect cowboys on a bug ranch" ideas into one game.
Here are some variations on how the cowboy bug game might have worked. My favorite was one where the cowboy is rounding up ants into a coral. I would have liked to do all of them and make it a bug rodeo!
These notes show the gameplay that I ultimately went with. At one point there was a sort of terraced hill that the bugs would crawl up. That didn't seem to match the theme so I changed it to magnifying glasses.
I hope you guys find this helpful and interesting!
What I’m eating while writing this post:
Here’s my sketch / ideas / incomplete todo list :
I sucks at drawing but I have to write ideas even if I’m the only one to understand what it means.
The compo started at 4:00 am in my local time, and it’s now 12 pm. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what kind of game I could possibly make in 48 hours and in accordance with the theme. I was close to give up. But I’ve decided that even if the game will be bad, deja vu, not original I will just enjoy making it and have fun. So here it is
The first screenshot with our little yet unamed buddy.
It will be a metroidvania. Probably. With a little twist in the story. If I have enough time to do all that I planned.
Quick warmup sketch made in Cherrybrush:
Radio tuned to the Secret Sound Service. Take care, everyone! Here’s wishing a fruitful and productive LD48.
Edit: a nearly-pointless “song” made in Musagi a few days ago: Jungle Exploration Theme (ca. 1996)
Also, I may or may not be twittering about the process.
…just don’t hit the ground! So far our hungry hero/monster flies around and can make a puke-animation, behind the game-window is the sucky level with the even more sucky level-format
I might make some touchups here and there, but otherwise that graphics probably is final. If you don’t like it I’m going to send evil kittens to haunt you…
Those very dramatic shots of my last candy means that I don’t have anything left, and it’s time to shop for food. I’m going to curse my refrigerator for being empty and then go shopping. In the last shot there is a little sketch about how stuff work in my game – enjoy
Here’s my first sketch of a tower game. You’re the dude on the tower. The baddies are on the left. They’ll be working their way to the right to attack your tower. Not totally original, but it’s something I think I can make fun. That’s always been the biggest hurdle in any “out there” game idea I come up with.
Now I just need to start working on the Java objects to represent these game objects.
