It’s coming along. A new enemy type and the first level layout are done as well as fancy level graphics. Beats white cubes, eh?

Audio though….

I didn’t stand a chance. It doesn’t help that them there robots are attracted to screws.

It’s pretty good progress all and all. A few more enemy types and new level layouts are the main tasks tomorrow. Audio as well, I guess. That old killjoy.

Thrilling, right?

The perceptive among you might recognize the level layout (unlikely). It’s lifted whole cloth from my earlier entry way back in LD29. That makes it twice recycled code, which you’d know if you read the description (very unlikely).

This time I’m not making the graphics either, so I’m totally developing on easy mode here. Go go teamwork!

First-person zebra-beetle air-combat simulator. That’s a world first, I would hope!

The only thing left on the to-do list is audio, but that should be a cinch right?

Progress (14 hours in) – Simulation up and running

I strapped a camera to one of the bees, it got beaten up pretty bad…

The simulation works about as it should now. I have the whole day tomorrow to implement interaction mechanics and audio, lucky me!

Progress (10 hours in) – BEES!

There they are, swarms of bees, as planned.

Most of the time was spent on modelling, texturing and animating. I even made an “evil” bee variant which will come in handy later.

Creating a flocking behaviour for the bees would have bee-n a big deal except someone had already cracked the code with Unity and opensourced the whole shebang.

Take a look if you need something similar:

So far so good. Player controls and city destruction are in.

The only thing missing now is tanks! A lot of tanks…

Progress report 50%!

GIF 3 : GIF Harder!

Let’s call it 50% why not, no need to throw in the towel yet.
Here are two of the three (count’em) lab machines available for genetic experiments. The green one, codename “Duper”, is fully functional, unlike the blue “Mixer” on the right, which just destroys the resources at the moment.

Most of the (back)ground work is done now so It’s time for GUI coding.
And here I was having so much fun…

GIF 2! The sequel.

Slowing down a bit I think. Some sleep would do… or maybe just a prolonged break.
The main mechanics are still missing!
It’s going to be great.
I’ll keep telling myself that.

The droid AI works well enough, time to move on.
I really like the design as usual and even the theme fits! That must be a first.
I might be able to implement the gameplay this time as well.

Charity miniLD – Quick progress report

Im about done for today’s work on the game. Made some progress, theres a player sprite which runs around, and a basic environment (road with buildings either side and an intersection) along with some cars that randomly spawn and can drive into you (blood splatter included), now I have other things to tend to :(

A friend of mine might be getting involved with the game while I’m away for the next 10-20 hours, so progress might be made (hes been working on music for it today). Then tomorrow will be time to sit down and start finishing things! Ive purposefully aimed pretty low with this game, I’ll just get as much done as possible and enjoy it.

Either way, the game Ive been wanting to make for this is effectively ‘GrandTheftAuto re-imagined for the NES’. I hope to have at least 1 gun, cars to drive/steal, blood to splatter and sidewalks to drive down, maybe even some simple kinds of missions. We’ll see!

Some screens:

Might also mention, I 3D’ized the gamepad texture recently released as well, so now theres 2 controllers in the scene (which adds to it nicely I think!)
