Nunsaram – post-mortem? what?

This is our first jam, and I guess it could be called a success because we made it!

We (me and endwl) made a game called Nunsaram. Nunsaram is the Korean word for snowman.

We had a fun time. I learned how important goals were, and also how to package & distribute games. Endwl learned how to do good pixel art.

 

We actually made a gigantic u-turn around the 48 hour point. We were adding too much “new”/unplanned aspects to the game, and we had reached a limit. Slow typing speed, too many bugs too fix, too many pixels to color, and thus, low morale. Eventually we reverted to our original idea and half the code in Game.hx rendered useless.

 

Oh yes. i used Haxe + OpenFL on Sublime Text. no IDE. not this time.

Endwl used something, but I don’t know.

We used a Yamaha piano and Audacity and sfxr for the sound

 

I’m getting the timelapse (29 hours whoo!) together, so it’ll be up soon.

 

Next time, we’re gonna focus more on the “original goal” and save time for sound and stuff.

Hello:

Now that I have your attention, let me get into detail. Some of our team members already have experience in this competition since this is their third time while some others participate for the first time (like me). Our team consists of 6 members. A few words about them:

  • Elias, who has already participated in 2 LDs and will be responsible for the graphics,
  • Dimitris, also participating for the third time and will be responsible for the physics and AI of our game. (You can also call him “The ten-minute man”),
  • Kostas, who has already participated once and will also be responsible for physics and AI along with Dimitris,
  • Redina, also participated once and will be responsible for the inputs and the core of the game,
  • Elpiniki, participated in LD32 with all of the above, who will be helping with the art, and
  • Penny (that’s me!),who will also work on the art, the story, the music and will be posting here.

I promise to take and post funny pictures of them here. Don’t miss them!

As for our tools, we are going to use JavaFX, eclipse for our IDE, version control with git/github and for our graphics GIMP, paint tool SAI and maybe MMD.

Hi, I’m Sam and this is my second Ludum Dare compo declaration. I’m going to try to one-up my last entry by focusing more on the gameplay.

I’ll be programming using Haxe with three.js externs like before. The base code is a very-work-in-progress collection of Haxe utilities, algorithms and HaxeFlixel extensions called Lycan. I also hope to build on this sky shader editor I made in the aftermath of the last compo.

This is going to be a good one. I’m already looking forward to playing people’s entries and exchanging feedback. Best of luck to all!
