First of all, thank you very much! It’s really great to see so many positive and constructive comments on Spinstar. It was a fun yet challenging 48 hours and it’s great to be able to make another compo entry after only managing to reach jam last time.

I’ve managed to play and vote on over 80 entries so far, and while there is still a week left of voting, I thought I’d show my five favourites thus far, as there have been many developers who have pulled off interesting and creative ideas based on the theme, and this LD had a really good theme.

2ShiftDrift by 01010111

Very well polished game that combines vertical space shooting with racing, while tracks can eventually get repetitive there is a really good challenge with multitasking between going along the track and shooting down enemy choppers and the like.

Statis Core by Eshford

One extremely good looking boss battle, I love my bullet hells and this one was both easy to jump into but hard to beat, but actually succeeding is very worthwhile!

windowframe by managore

As soon as I saw this gameplay gif, I was immediately reminded of an entry back in LD31 called Screen Mover. I definitely like to say this game definitely expands on the concept of your game window having an effect on the gameplay, and seeing a real window move around on the screen is captivating to me.

CYGLiDE by ocarson

Some really nice low-poly graphics at work, this game does an interesting job at controlling flight that takes some getting used to, but feels great once you get the hang of it.

BlobWall by Sophie Houlden

It’s a shame that it doesn’t look finished (and I cannot rate it on any category) but out of all the entries I’ve seen which imitates the “Hole in the Wall” game show formula, this is probably the best executed one by design. Not to mention the camera work is brilliant, showing the perfect angle for each wall and position of the player.

Now go do Ludum Dare proud and PLAY AND VOTE!

I’m really proud to introduce my fifth LudumDare entry ‘The Mosquito Effect’ (The Mosquito Simulator).  Try this out to feel like a gint mosquito mutant for a while.

Here is a trailer to check this out. Watch it. Play it. Play it in Oculus Rift as well. And please, comment any wishes you like to make things better!

Baa Ram Ewe – The most obscure easter egg in the entire LD

Check it out my entry for this Ludum Dare. Found the easter egg? It seems not so popular in the rest of the world as it is in Brazil, which is a shame =((

TWO HOURS BEFORE DEADLINE WE HAD NO ACTIVE GAMEPLAY!! RACHEL DID IT!! OMG!!

You could have photo-finished our upload. We got it submitted with two minutes to spare.

AFWL_BANNER

 Play “A Fine White Line”!

I honestly can’t believe Rachel made this playable. (Actually, I can! She worked really hard!) Hammering away on her keyboard, she literally learnt how to do all of the Unity programming this weekend. Unfortunately, she got really stuck, and we couldn’t find any answers to the logistics problem online — we were just about to throw in the towel completely and chock it up to experience.

AND THEN … she figured it out!

afwl_Screen_02

With 1.5 hours left on the clock, we managed to throw in some win/lose conditions, music, more art and added an extra variable. It likely needs some washing up! But it’s done.

We’ve tried to incinerate all the bugs we can for the time being. Hopefully they will all (mostly) be squashed. For now, enjoy the bugs! They are horrible and only around for a limited time. Like the McRib!

Enjoy, everyone! This game really is one of those little miracles.

I am very pleased to have participated in my first ludumdare.
I would love you to experience and comment on my game so I can have a better participation in the next event.

Help the character to find the level exit.
But be careful not to enter the darkness because of abstinence character by computers.

Baa-Ram-Ewe! Finished!

Finally I finished my entry for this Ludum Dare (LD31, the theme is The Entire Game on One Screen). This time, I am so exhausted that I couldn’t do any progress report during the weekend, but, on the other hand, I could finish the game, including the mechanics, graphics and sounds.

My idea was creating something with artificial intelligence (again) and for some reason, after the theme announcement, I remembered that I never touched at a flocking algorithm and this would be a good opportunity for it. The game idea is to take some sheeps from one point and bring them to another, without letting them to leave the map or to be killed. The player uses the mouse to herd the sheeps, which will behave accordingly to their neighbor mates and some tiles in the environment.

As tradition, I writing here a summary of the competition:

What was good:

  • Could finish the game!
  • Cute sheeps with nice behavior;
  • I could follow the schedule without any change;
  • I could do some music and sound effects;
  • I drawn my first tileset!

What wasn’t good:

  • Lot of problems with collisions ;/
  • Spend a lot of time with rotation math (shame on me);
  • The sound effects are pretty limited and the music is too simple;
  • The graphics are cool but some things I’m hating, such as the windmill;
  • I had to redraw the tileset 2 times!

Which technologies and techniques I used:

  • The sheeps are controlled by a flocking algorithm, (or boid algorithm) as described here and here;
  • The graphics were made in Inkscape;
  • The map were built in Tiled, using a 32×32 tileset;
  • I recorded the audio for the sound effects in Audacity;
  • The music were made in Guitar Pro and converted in audacity;
  • CreateJS and Creatine were used as programming base;

Getting ill

One of the worst things that can happen during a dare, getting a severe cold or other illness. Lucky, I caught a cold. Sore throat, eyes, ears and I can continue for a while. Currently full of meds I’m trying to get to the end of the dare. Less than 11 hours left. I should be able to get there!

Poo Dee Pie Header

Hey, everyone!

Today has been eventful. Steffen painted 90% of the graphics for Poo Dee Pie. Ben got the WIP version of Poo Dee Pie up and running on GameJolt.com. (You can play it here: http://gamejolt.com/games/arcade/poo-dee-pie/40903/)

Steffen has gone to bed now, but he sent an early look GIF of the mouse trapped in the conveyor belt.

There is also a new “Fired” screen in the works:

Poo Dee Pie Header

We have a question for everyone! We need some fun catch phrases. Poo Dee Pie has the option to have sixteen different headers. Steffen and Ben would like to see different catch phrases on each one.

Poo Dee PieAs you can see, the original phrase was “Nothing says “I love you!” like a hot Poo Dee Pie.
Currently, the following have been selected:

Nothing says “I love you!” like a hot Poo Dee Pie
A Poo Dee Pie a day keeps tapewormy away!
Raising poop awareness one pie at a time
Keeping you regular since 1976
What are your suggestions? Let us know here or throw out ideas on Twitter using the tag #PooDeePie. You can also tweet to @SteffenWittig, @ThumbsBlue and @Kintinue.

Poo Dee Pie is making huge strides. Ben and Steffen have been working like crazy to get everything up and running. You can check out the WIP version of the game here: http://gamejolt.com/games/arcade/poo-dee-pie/40903/

Steffen has taken one of my favorite elements and animated it! The mouse in the conveyer belt will move around the rollers throughout game play. The mouse will be added on later and new adjustments will come to the WIP game on game jolt. Ben is catching some Zzz’s ATM.

Steffen is still creating gorgeous art for the game. Check out some of his updates:
