My LD secret santa gift arrived today! I’ve got no idea who’s it’s from – there’s nothing in or on the package to identify the sender, except an Irish stamp. What’s inside?

Alcohol! 😀

Oh, there’s something else in here…

More alcohol! Magnificent 😀

There’s also this game design book, which I don’t know much about but will have a look through over Christmas:

And best of all, a BAH HUMBUG Santa hat:

Thanks very much, Santa!

So I ran the match-up script for the LD gift exchange 2011 and just sent out the mails to all the participants.

It’s 33 participants in total, and unfortunately some europeans got other europeans for a sendout. I hope though that the script ran just fine. I actually don’t know who got who for the gift exchange. I could look it up in the database, but that would be only half the fun.

So if there was any mistake with the match-up and you got someone from your own country, please contact me.

But so long, go shopping and send out the gifts until the of November.

Some of you might still remember the last years Ludum Dare gift exchange 2010. It was awesome. So this year we totally make another gift exchange for you all.

What’s it all about?

Well a couple of ludum darers subscribe to the gift exchange. Then everyone gets one person for match-up to send him or her a gift for christmas. Most likely that will be a person overseas, so it is even more fun because you get a gift from a different continent.

So yeah, it’s pretty easy, gather around 50$, buy a gift and send it out to the person you will be assigned to. Remember that shipping will cost around 25$ so you will have 25$ for buying a nice local present that is typical for your area.

Of course you could still add more if you like. I for one added a lot of small stuff to the present like local magazines, some local cookies and a free coffee coupon for a local bar.

How to participate?

Just subscribe yourself in this form and follow the instructions in the mail.

Further information will come in the subscription mail. Be prepared to go shopping and be ready to send out a package until 30th November. Oh and needless to say, everyone who participates will get a gift himself by another darer from another continent.

So yeah, subscribe and have fun.

In case you missed it, Phil organized a low-key gift exchange between members of the Ludum Dare community. About 20 of us signed up, Phil put all our names in to a “virtual hat”, and forwarded a contact to each of us.

To keep it interesting, everyone was assigned someone in a different country — that way, we could send locally relevant gifts to each other. So yes, somewhere out there, a very Canadian bundle should be arriving soon.

Me, I was awakened today to the sound of the door ringing. As it turns out, the mail man arrived super-early with a package for me — a HUGE laptop sized box, covered in Deutsche Post markings!

What mysteries lie inside DAS BOXEN?

Lets explore the contents of this uber gift. (more…)

I just received my LD Gift Exchange gift today. It’s a Glasgowbury 2010 music festival programme on a lanyard.

The programme has five parts, for all the different stages at the festival. “Small But Massive Main Stage” in dark red, “G Sessions Stage” in bright red, “Spurs of Rock Stage” in pink, “Eagle’s Rock Stage” in orange, and “G Spot Stage” in yellow. The backsides are all black, with the venue logo and the slogan “Small But Massive” in white. Some of the listed bands include names like “Panama Kings”, “Team Fresh”, “Little Hooks”, and “Henrietta Game”.

The lanyard is 90cm long, black and has the venue logo as well as the words “red square” in white.

The accompanying letter written by gift-giver Grieve has nice lines to write on, and a pink margin line on the left. It also has holes for easy storage in a binder.
