Now that I have your attention: please do not. But I need constructive criticism on my entry

What I’d like to know

I know that audio would be great so that’s a no brainer. But how does the game feel to you? Is it fun? What would you personally change in order to make it more fun / more intuitive / more fluid… To make the game better? You can be as brutally honenst as you like – just don’t get insulting.

Hello everyone,

Hope you have a good time. I have started off today by creating some assets and the base platformer Engine.

The plan is, that there is a small Homeless kid wich has his own small world in the underground of a big city. It will hopefully be a survival game and you need to survive

and find yourself a way to …. (End of my idea)

I am so excited to build a game this weekend! I am going to use some base code of my own to store global high scores. I can’t wait to see who gets the highest score. Base code can be found here:

I’m totaly in!
This is my second Ludum Dare, and this time I will cheating a bit.
It’s dangerous to go alone, so I will take this:

Engine: Godot (I have only visited website yesterday and never tried this engine before).
Music: LMMS or some online sequencer with Audacity.
Art: Krita (I love Krita so much!) and photoshop. Maybe I will google some animation tools directly on saturday.
Food: Tea, coffee, beer and something good.

… And my secret weapon, my greatest cheat: Now I have a girlfriend with amazing and incredible beautiful smile. I hope, she will give me inspiration.

Preparing our Real World Gathering in Tours (France)

Paper, code, screen, the most basic tools.

As some might have read there, we are preparing our second Real World Gathering in Tours. And to be honest, it is getting really exiting : so far our 20 seats for kids are booked. And graphic designers, musicians and developers have proposed to help them creating their own games!

It also seams that we will manage to group around 40 people covering a wide skills range, from graphic designers, to artists, developers, makers or board game designers. I can’t wait to discover what crazy projects will come out of this !

A showcase on Friday night, to start dreaming

As we might be quite a large number of participants who have never met each other, on Friday night (the 21st) we will organise a showcase to get to know eachother (and start dreaming) : everyone will be invited to show its previous productions : boardgames, odd electronic devices, drawings, and video games of course ! You can bet, that it will only be a beginning, as we will order tons of pizzas… But that’s another story 😉

Five workshops for beginners, and the others…

We also want to welcome beginners. So from the 10th to the 19th of April, we organise 5 workshops opened to everyone (whether they take part to the gathering or not) to learn and share about game creation :

  • Creating a platformer with Construct 2, for beginners. Tuesday the 10th – 7pm
  • Discovering the FunLab and its crazy machines. Wednesday the 11th – 7pm
  • Graphics in video games, a workshop to share our knowledge. Thursday the 12th – 7pm
  • Creating a point & click with Adventure Game Studio, for beginners. Tuesday the 18th – 7pm
  • Sounds and Musics in video games, a workshop to share our knowledge. Thursday the 12th – 7pm

Real World Gathering in Tours for LD#38

Last August we organized our first Real World Garthering.

We were 15, built 5 teams, released 6 games. Some people travelled a few hundred kilometers to joins us, and it was incredibly warm (I have had 6 BSOD due to over heating…), but it has been a great experience ! So, we have decided to do it again.

But as we enjoyed it so much, we really want to open the event to even more people, and have more fun !

Ludum Dare for kids

On saturday afternoon, we will organise a Coding Gouter (Coding Snack) : graphists and developpers work with kids to make simple game in 4 hours. And if the parents agree, these games will be posted on Ludum’s site (with a proper explanation, that they have been made by kids), so the kids will be proud of their products ! Of course, I’ll encourage you to play and review these games with kindness.

Game creation for non-developpers

Last edition, we hopped that gaming tools (such as scratch, puzzle script or inkle writer) would allow non-developpers to easilly take part to the competition. But it has been more difficult than expected. So this year, to allow more people to join the party, we are opening a Board Game section. But, you know, the sky is the limit ! So we teamed with our local Fablab to push print & play even further, and allow participants to create wacky figurines or odd gaming contraptions that anyone will be able to reproduce at home !

We can’t wait so see what will come out that event…

Ludum Dare #38 start time?

What time does this next Ludum Dare start, and in what time zone?

This will be my first one, and I am really excited. I know it says April 21st – 24th are the dates. I also read the rules and FAQ, but I couldn’t seem to find what time zone is used and what time it starts.
