After I made my warmup game (play) here’s the obligatory I’m in post:

I’m in!!!

I am in! After a fantastic first LD#23 where Fedor and I made our superb shoot-em-up Kumiho

And a great second LD#24 where Nathan and I made our hybrid-genre, sadly unfinished, super-ambitious Arcane Dungeons

I am in again!
I haven’t found a programmer, and have a deadline on Monday, so will go solo, and can only dedicate a few hours. But as we all know, a few hours in Ludum Dare time, go a long way.
So I’ll be using

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • Construct 2

and will keep my fingers crossed that the tiny amount of programming logic that I possess will be enough.
I’m probably going to make something tiny and not very ambitious, but watch out for my entry.

Good luck and have fun, all you wonderful people!
Never give up. Never surrender!

This is my first game jam and I’m quite excited. I’m a little late to the party but I’ve decided to take part in this ludum dare and see what happens.

There is a good chance I won’t finish the game on time but I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.

Here’s the tools I will be using:

  • Unity3d (4.0) as the game engine
  • Blender and GIMP for art assets
  • SFXR for audio assets

Coming back for… what?  My 5th Ludum Dare?  Not sure exactly.  As always, it’s timed at a very awkward point for me, but that’s just how things go.  I’ve accepted it by now.  Assuming all of the parts that I ordered for my new computer get in on time, and they all work, and I don’t have too much troubling setting it all up, installing an OS, etc. I should be in!  Good luck everyone!

Ludum Dare again ^^

Sunday, December 9th, 2012 2:22 pm

So, I am going to be competing in Ludum Dare again and am growing increasingly excited. Although I didn’t manage to finish last time, I have learnt from last time and hope to be able to this time. I still have a lot to learn in regards to this, but at least every time is a learning experience.

Language: Java
Library: LWJGL

Graphics: Paint.NET
Sounds: Musagi

Plan: Spend first 30 minutes planning, then start working on getting the core game concept working. Once that is done start polishing it up by adding menu, etc. and composing the sounds and music if there is time.

Round 4…. fight! (I’m in).

I’m in again. 4th Ludum Dare and I can’t wait.

This time around, I have a couple of goals.

First, as per usual, I’ll be learning/teaching myself  a new framework: Cocos2d-html5. I’ve used Cocos2d-iPhone before, so I’m guessing it shouldn’t take too long to get familiar with the JavaScript API.

Second, I want sound! I haven’t done anything with Sound/Music in the previous 3 LDs, so I’m going to make a concentrated effort to do something with sound.

Dev stack:

  • OSX, 10.6.8
  • Chrome/Safari/Firefox (html5)
  • Cocos2d-html5
  • bfxr/cfxr (sound)
  • inkscape/gimp (graphics)

Ludum Dare #25 – I’m in!

Aloha from Montana!

It’s time to celebrate two things! I’m going to do Ludum Dare 25, regardless of when in December it is! Secondly, I’ve got an upgrade of tools!

Toolset:

  • Language: Lua
  • Framework: LÖVE
  • Code Editor: Sublime Text 2
  • Music Composition Software: MuseScore
  • Audio Editor: Adobe Audition/Encore CS6
  • Image Editor: Adobe Photoshop CS6

Existing code:

Note: I’ll lock my code in officially as Ludum Dare 25 approaches, but the GitHub links above will provide a snapshot of what I’m working on.

What I learned from last time:

  • You don’t have time to recreate Unreal Engine 4.
  • Gameplay is kinda important.
  • If you aren’t focused or you aren’t having fun, take a break.
  • Vote as early after submission ends as possible — it killed my ranking last time around because I slept for 4 days following the competition.
  • Remember that it isn’t about ranking, it’s for yourself.

In preparation I’ve been making a series of awful short timespan games I’m calling “S-Games” (take a guess as to why, screenshot) so I can practice finishing things, even though I finished in LD #24, it didn’t feel like I would. Two weekends before I’ll probably do a full-on practice with a few friends.

I do guess this is a little early, but to all those who think that they might do this upcoming Ludum Dare, do it! It’s a lot of fun even if it does drain your energy completely for a weekend.
