MorphSpace-LDFinal

Play it here!

“Shapeshift asteroids into mines and blow up enemies with them without getting blown up yourself. Transform enemy remains into more stuff and see how long you can survive! “

Couldn’t get a lot of stuff in – in particular most of the interface and sound are missing, but stuff works and you can watch it explode, so not all a loss!

Everything considered, though, this was still a great Dare for me. I learned a number of useful things and had a bunch of fun doing so. Definitely worth the time spent.

Good luck everyone – I look forward to playing your games!

Second day coming to a close

Spaceshift

So it’s been a long one, but it’s been productive. Building is in, as are all the effects associated. I’ve also added level boundaries so you can’t escape into the endless void, so that’s good.

I’d been hoping to add basic enemies today as well, but I figure I can squeeze that in to tomorrow without pressing things too much. All in all, today went well, and I’ve got high hopes for the future!

Shapeshifter? Shift Shaper.

Shapeshifting? Shape Shift, Shift shaping?

Last time I didn’t stick much to the theme, this time I took it quite literally.

Somehow it turned out to be a deathstar runner.

4 Watts of Physical Lasers

I’m going to try to make a multiplayer laser videogame perhaps. This will be my first LD competition, but I have to get off work in time. Might have to start a few hours late.

Some of my laser work/videogames are on lasers.io. Might be cool to stream like Twitch Plays Pokemon, but that’s a lot of work.

I’m going to make use of preexisting libraries I wrote for lasing. And two laser projectors + DACs.

Not sure if this has to be a completely solo lock in. Anyone in the Atlanta area interested in hanging out while working on LD?

What kind of cameras / equipment do I need to multiplex a video stream? I’d have to buy it in a hurry if I aim to live stream. My email is on my website if you want to contact me, just Google around.

What does every Villain want? (Progress Report #1)

Except for world domination?

I’m sure you know…

That’s right. That’s what every Villain wants. And YOU are the Villain and will get it:

FRICKIN’ sharks with FRICKIN’ laser beams attached to their FRICKIN’ heads!!!

Play a first version here (works best in Chrome and IE 10, Firefox has some random framerates)
sharkattack

It’s my first LD and I’ve been programming for almost 10 hours. Took quite some time until I finally came up with this idea. I hope I’ll be able to finish it tomorrow.

TODOs:

  • add stuff to blow up with those frickin’ lasers
  • sound effects
  • scores for blowing up stuff that doesn’t exist yet
  • and hopefully some better graphics
  • have it run smoothly in Firefox too

Now…. with ENERGY WEAPONS!!

Play in yo browser here…

Yeah– I’m excited.. so far… OK.. the two largest ships fire these purple beam weapons.  The largest ship with the chance of firing 2 of them.. the second largest ship firing one.

I also have doubled the level length but that will change as well eventually.. I just wanted a larger amount of ships to fly through.

Also.. I made it so if your fleet touches any of the screen boundaries.. they asplode.  Ideally… this wouldn’t be the case.. but after fighting collision detection logic (it is complicated due to fleet coords/ tweening patterns etc..) there were so many ways to rig the system to get your ships to hide.. that I just made them asplode… :)

Anyway— Beam weapons give you a tiny bit of warning via visual clue.. think any robotech episode when they are firing the reflex weapon.. there is always that .35 of a second where you can get out of the colorful path before you are so many cinders.

So.. recap: running into screen boundaries.. capital ships.. or giant purple lasers will kill your little ships.. :)

Let me know if the effects are killing anyones computers yet.. i’ve done 0 optimizations.. (hey.. its LD)

Wall of Space Doom!

So.. finally got an idea I feel like running with on this theme:

First, the mockup!

Anyway.. the simple concept is you are controlling a fleet of the last ships of your race.  You are fleeing your planet as an alien armada of doom approaches.  You will be able to move your fleet up/down/left/right and there will also be a key that lets you toggle the density/pattern of your fleet.  Think of it as able to expand or contract.

You will move through the armada avoiding colliding with capital ships and what will surely be horrendous energy weapons fire as they attempt to anihilate your race.

You must get a least ONE of your ships through the armada to win.  The more ships you get through the larger your bonus at the end for saving a larger gene pool of your race… 😉

Simple idea, hopefully the scope will be one of which I can get a fun, playable game out of before the deadline is up…

Moon Invaders

LD48 #8.5 was an unofficial competition with two themes: Moon, and Anti-Text. “Moon” was actually some insanely long thing about how you’re looking at the moon and suddenly realize it’s an alien spaceship or something, but we just called it Moon. So I created probably my favorite of my own LD48 entries, Moon Invaders. There’s no text whatsoever in the entire game, which makes reading the manual rather necessary, since it’s a strategy game. It’s basically a tower defense game, but instead of monsters following a path, they descend Space Invaders style. I greatly enhanced this game post-compo, working obsessively for a week. I just like it!
