Ludum Dare game browser updated for LD36

I’ve updated the Ludum Dare game browser for all the LD36 games submitted so far. It will automatically update as games come in. Because this LD doesn’t have any ratings, I’ve changed the sort order to be completely random! This page lists all the games submitted along with the image provided by the developer. You can scroll through the entire list on a signle page. Enjoy

Are we really sure to give up on the ranking system for this LD?

I know there’s been a poll but I don’t think we fully discussed it outside the context of “Let’s make PoV happy/give him a break”.

After all, WE ARE doing a Ludum Dare and it’s also WITHOUT his participation. We are the ones who are going to deal with PoV’s choices and making LD on our own. (nothing mean spirited)

There IS itch.io to consider, there IS the old ranking system, there ARE options.

Yes I know we already voted this thing – but perhaps we rushed on the decision?

* The importance of the voting system *

I mean – what has driven LD and it’s amazing feedback? We are being naive if we think that the voting system has no value here. It’s the voting system that complements the social perception of what is an entry in Ludum Dare, how good is it, and in turn – giving attention to those who stand out. Isn’t it a huge part of this? Why do people even bother to give feedback? Yes, some people are nice and give comments but honestly the rankings are a promising part of the incentive to do so.

The coolness system, the ranking comitment – you have to rank to get ranked, and rank about 20 for the ranking to be vast and informative enough to calculate the final rating of each entry as a “fair” feedback. You have the responsibility and personal interest to do so.

Yes, your prize is your product, but without feedback doing it together as a part of a jam is almost meaningless.

I mean, do it in your free time. It’s the same – you still have your product. There’s no particular reason for doing it while tons of others are doing it as well. It’s actually pretty inconvenient.

I mean – I hear that the system isn’t really working well, and that the new site should be the representitive of Ludum Dare and so on… but if so far people didn’t notice. Perhaps, it wouldn’t be that bad to have it just once more working.

So once again – are we sure we want to make this Ludum Dare without the rankings?

Must we really prevent the use of it in all costs?

(I believe there IS time to change this!)

LD Entry: SpinStar

This is my finished compo entry, best way I’d describe it is what would happen if you cross Ikaruga with Super Hexagon, you’d get a difficult, fast paced bullet hell where you must switch colours to absorb matching bullets or dodge anything else.

To match with the theme, the boss shapeshifts and the player can shapeshift into one of two kind of ships a fast-yet-large or small-yet-slow.

I originally had both a HTML5 and Windows version, however there seems to be a problem with HaxeFlixel’s HTML builds being extremely slow even on high performing machines, even though this never happens on either Windows or Flash builds.

Vote for the game here or go play the game directly here.

New features for Ludum Dare on itch.io

Hello all,

I didn’t work on any games for Ludum Dare this time around, but I did add some new stuff to itch.io that you might find useful. The biggest one is that you can can now embed games hosted on itch.io directly on your submission page. The new embed feature lets you embed HTML and Flash games anywhere, and it works great with Ludum Dare’s submission page:

Drag link to embed

After uploading your game just find the new “Embed game” section on the distribute tab of the game’s edit page.

The second update is for tagging games. I just wanted to make it really obvious that you can tag your game for Ludum Dare. I also added the ability to provide your submission link directly from within the create/edit page:

Tag your game and provide link

Hope you ejoy! (and I hope I’ll get some time to make a game next time)

I finally decided to post my LD33 game on itch.io. You can buy it for $0.50 – $0.80 Since I didn’t want to charge much for it. Its just a small game and quite addictive if I do say so myself!

I bet no-one can complete the Extra more unlocked by completing Easy, Medium and Hard. Good luck and it really supports me if you buy, donate or both. 😀
