Feeling ready for MiniLD70!

Greetings, stranger!

My first LD entry was not so good (really, I don’t like it at all), but I’ve got a lot of feedback from people, saying something like “Hey, that’s cool! Just keep doin’ the thing” (thank you, guys! There’s nothing more motivating in the world, than your feedback). So I’ve decided to use every little chance to get better in making games. That’s why I’m in for MiniLD70!

The last LD theme wasn’t inspiring for me at all. I just spent the first day frustrated and trying to get something great from “Ancient Technology”. Now I feel different: MiniLD theme looks interesting. I’ve got an idea to make just a clone of a tabletop game for two persons (yes, multiplayer again), that is absolutely not random-driven (like Go or Chess). But it will not look like a tabletop game. Let’s see how cool can I do!

Wish you enthusiasm and inspiration!

I’m in for a second try at Ludum Dare. My first one was a year ago, and I really overestimated what I could do in such a small amount of time. For this time, I have drastically changed my tools and learned enormous amounts of programming skills since then, which should help a lot. I also hopefully got my streaming setup right this time. Like last time, I’m entering the jam in solo, because my friend who was interested in participating with me had some other appointments already.

If you would like to follow my progress, you will be able to find it on twitch ( hopefully starting between 7:30am and 8:00am GMT time. I will also get my timelapse sorted and most important of all, create something amazing (that I can hopefully post) and enjoy myself in the process.

Thanks for reading! Everyone, have a great Ludum Dare!

Not sure if in d>_>I

Did not expect this theme to win 😮

So far, I have some generic ideas and one interesting one, but the interesting one is too complex to be done in two (or three) days to a satisfying degree and the generic ones are not motivating me enough to spend the weekend on them.

But maybe I find a new idea, or I find a way to down-size the big one or to make the generic ones more interesting.

Good luck to everyone!

I’ve finally found time to participate in Ludum Dare!

Although it’s tempting to use bare C++ with OpenGL, I’ll probably use some third-party engine ( Godot or Unity or Panda3D, not decided yet ). For graphics I’ll have my girlfriend help and for audio…I think I’ll have to make some procedural noises (I’m a little musically challenged :-P).

Good luck and have fun :-)

Here I come, Ludum Dare 34!

There are two themes, which came as some surprise. The description says I can take one of them, or both. I think I’ll go with both then, because where would be the fun otherwise? (Also it’s a lot easier to narrow down ideas with more limitations.)

  • Code: Game Maker Studio or raw JavaScript
  • “Art”: Paint Shop Pro 6 and Game Maker Studio’s built-in editor most likely, but I’m always leaving this open
  • Sound: bfxr, and maybe a random music generator, if I need music

Currently brainstorming after a great breakfast. Got a sore throat from a cold, so no voice acting this time!

Good luck to everyone!

Fourth attempt at LD. Again not much time I think…

First attempt at LD went well technically but didn’t result in a playable game, only stuff moving around on the screen with no incentive for the player to do anything.

Second LD resulted in a “game” created in the jam together with my daughter which was actually a little fun to play.

Third attempt failed on all fronts: too little time available, technical issues getting stuff running and no real game concept.

This time I will attempt to put together a super mini game using the Superpowers engine because I think it is so cool being able to jam together, simultaneously working on a project, but it is more for getting used to the engine than anything else. I may be able to convince my son to provide som input in which case I will go for the jam otherwise the compo… Won’t be spending much time on it – just using it as an excuse to learn stuff and participate in the event because it is cool!

Engine: SuperPowers
Audio: Internet blip generators…
Graphics: Gimp for pixelated crap…

In again

Let’s do this LDJam thing! No particular goals, just want to enjoy the event.

I will use the same set of tools as last time.

Framework: HTML, Javascript, ImpactJS, my own analytics stuff
Text editor: Kate
Graphics: GIMP, Inkscape, Infinte Design
Audio: Maybe Autotracker or Fake Music Generator and bfxr or jfxr. Audacity to edit my own recordings, done wth my mobile phone.

Base code: (just a basic HTML template and minimum CSS)

Good luck to everyone!

It appears that I’ll be participating in my third Ludum Dare this weekend, first time in the 48 compo! I will be busy most of Friday night but I think I’ll still try to enter in the competition this time around. Since my time frame is much smaller, the game should be a bit more basic than my previous entries. After working on Bionic since October, I am immensely excited to make a fresh game!

I will be using various tools:

Engine: Unity

Language: C#

Graphics: Blender, Gimp, Photoshop

Audio: LMMS, Audacity, SFXR

Something I will do is create a time lapse of the development, like I did in LD33. I hope you stay up to date @PowerSparkGames during development, thanks for reading!

First Time Dare – I’m In

This will be my first Ludum Dare, and I’m quite anxious to see how it goes. My class schedule happened to work around this dare and I thought why not give it a try. I’ve done some gamedev work and created a quick game with a group of others so hopefully this goes well.  If you want, check out the game here.

Planning on going it alone this first time to get the feel. Will be using Unity3D with C#, Photoshop, Illustrator. Also audio programs SFXR, BoscaCeoil, and Audacity if those work out.

Can’t wait to get started. Here’s to a crazy weekend.

So since my regular running crew from Team +rehab – those responsible for Dark Soils, Wyrmhole and Gradience – are all indisposed, I will be Jam’ing this one solo.  This also means I have no artist or support coders.  Fun times.

Love the theme but inspiration is in short supply, and time is short.  Might do a snarky inversion of some existing gameplay mechanic, since a lot of people seem to be doing either kaiju or demons already.

Tech will be JavaScript on Chrome, probably with PhaserJS or ThreeJS.  The ‘art’, such as it is, will be done in Photoshop.  If I get time for audio, it’ll be FLStudio.

Enjoy the jam folks.

Not my first Ludum Dare, but this will be the second time I’ll submit my game to be voted upon.

I haven’t made up my mind for what to do in the sound department yet. Currently I’m looking at jfxr to fill this roll.

LD33 – I’m in-ish?

Hard to believe it’s already time for another LD!  I hope to be in, but will also be about a week short of moving to Taiwan this weekend, so I’ve got a few somewhat important things to get done.  We’ll see how much time I have available?  Hopefully I can get something together.

Most likely I will be working again with Javascript and GIMP.  I have no particular plans though.  I don’t know if that’s more a sign of how busy I’ve been, or that I’ve matured enough as a compo programming to not fret it.  Perhaps both?  Good luck, everyone!  I look forward to thousands of new great games!

We are (mostly) present and accounted for and will be making something that has the properties of a gaming experience over the next 2 days. We are, in no particular order: Me (@thegrieve), Neil (@njmcode), Dan (@stealthii), Claire (@clairedotw); with potentially some design and art direction from the venerable Sheldrick (@jsheldrick) and Pete (@petemcconnell_).

Our current thoughts seem to be leaning heavily towards a bullet-hell shooter, but we’re currently prototyping out mechanics so that may change.

See you all soon, and in the meantime, here’s a picture of the boss, Charles Babbage.

The Sketch of the game protagonist

I The Sketch of the game protagonist

I have the pleasure to announce it’s my first LD and I’m very exited with this fun event. For now, I have worked most on GDD and a little bit on Sketch of the character. I decided to not use Krita anymore which was used to make the character on this image. I will be back to Gimp, because Krita deserves much more learning to take full advantage of software. The game will be made with Godot Game Engine. I will rest a little bit dreaming with this event. Thankyou !

32 is the “département” where I live, so looks like I’m in.

Construct 2, GIMP, Reason, BFXR, Soundforge Audio Studio.

Good luck everybody.
