Last spring, I was finally able to official start the Game Design Club @ the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The goal is to make professional quality games that will help the club members get into the Gaming Industry. I couldn’t start the club until the close to the end of the semester, so we didn’t get a lot done, mostly because of finals. This fall semester is going to be different, starting with participating in Game Jams!
So, for the first time, the GDC@UTK is getting out there and we’re going to try our best and make some cool stuff. For this Compo, we’re going to split into teams (we might have a few lone wolfs), and make some quality games. Most of us in the club are fairly new to Game Dev and I only know of a couple that have participated in the past, so our games might be on the lower end of the spectrum. But that’s not the Ludum Dare is about! We just hope to make games that some people would like, and maybe play again! And who knows, we may turn these games into full games throughout this fall semester.
Some of the teams may stream or screen cap, but no guarantees. I know it’s late, but if anybody in the Knoxville, Tennessee (USA) area want to come by, the club will have some pizza and drinks in the Hodges Library presentation room, Friday the 22nd, 2014 from 8pm-10pm EST.
Wish us luck and Happy Gaming.
Hello, if anyone will be in the Santa Cruz area (1 hour south of san francisco), 1 week after GDC, March 15 at 7pm, I’ll be giving a talk on game jams to the e-games gathering in downtown santa cruz. I’ll talk about my experiences at more than a dozen LD’s and 4 global game jams, and I’ll talk about organizing game jams with a focus on team building from helping with the santa cruz ggj 2012 and plans for the sc ggj 2013, which I am organizing.
Dear Game Jam Friends:
Going to GDC? Want to be interviewed for the Game Jam Documentary?
You just might be able to get into the film. Let me know (via EMAIL: breakdance at mcfunkypants dot com) and I’ll put you in touch with the producers.
They are going to bringing a film crew to GDC for some interviews and have asked me to help rally the troops.
