After the first day

Wanted to do a longer recap after the first day, but… i’m too tired…

Progress could have been better, but doesn’t seem bad so far. A first prototype is done. There’s even a cute little ball that follows me around, although it isn’t able to attack yet. And there’s a startscreen!

Currently my partner is working on the level, fleshing out the design of our arena.

Here’s a screen of our prototype. The build in graphics and textures of UE4 look too damn good o.o
It’s all still placeholder graphics, was practically just a test of how it could look and what can be done.

Maybe I’ll get the recap done tomorrow morning, got some sketches to show and maybe I’ll get a small video done :)

Schedule for tomorrow:
– Combat
– Finishing our own models (yeah, got something done there too)
– Looking into texture making

Guide 2 Where

I’ve never had to censor spoilers in one of my creations before. I feel proud.

So, after getting off to an extraordinarily rocky start, I’ve got something going with jQuery, of all things! It’s got a sort of weird story unfolding. I don’t have it all completely figured out. I’m not sure if it will even be possible to get the whole story in a single playthrough.

I’ve never done anything even remotely like this in almost any way before, so I’m going to need some feedback on whether there’s anything I’m doing horribly wrong. After that, though, I’ve got a whole day to do nothing but write. That’s a lot of time, as long as I don’t go too crazy with the branching dialogue trees! Oh, and there’s also adding sound and music. But mostly just writing.

So, yeah. Play it by clicking this little link or the big image above, which is also a link. By the way, when you get to the part about police, the first two dialogue options don’t work because I haven’t written them yet. Go with the one that doesn’t say “Alright.”

LD29 Entry: Hidden Sub

Hi everyone! 
I’m very happy to announce that we’ve got at least a working game concept done on this LD! 
Me and my wife were working very hard on other things this weekend, so we just came up with the idea at Sunday, 10 pm! =/ But we’ve done some rapid prototyping so we can check that the game mechanic is solid and fun. Now we will finish the game, balance and so on. Please ignore the TOTALLY placeholder art (and the crazy helicopter orientation as well) =P

But here are the basic prototype: 
You control a submarine, hidden beneath the ocean surface :) You must destroy all the enemy helicopters by moving your sub left/right (with the arrows) and firing your missles (space). 
The catch is: you don’t know where your sub is until you fire! But when you do, the enemies see you too, and they attack. So you have to carefully balance your shots in order to destroy your enemies, find where you are and dodge the enemy missiles! 

BTW: The sub wraps on the screen edges, so no one can use them as exploits for locating the sub 😀

So I’ve figured out what I want to do.

wikipedia claims minimalism is:

Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is set out to expose the essence or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms, features or concepts

so I’m building “Break All The Pots!”.

so after some mesh reworking and frantic minimal texture drawing I got something almost “playable”

it even has a menu!
