[LD30] The end.

Ok, tough decision, I decided to forfeit and abandon this Ludum Dare.

Here’s what I had : http://cubertoy.free.fr/LD30/index.html

The story was that a person had an accident and, once in the water, try to get out of the car. When he wakes up, he can hear his own voice on the radio. The goal is to get all the item necessary to escape, switching from both world (both parallel earth, different dimensions) to get them. Three to make some kind of oxygen tank, and the others to break the glass. At the end, you would be able to get out… only if you undo the security belt… and only one of them would escape.

As I said in my previous post, missing the crafting, dialogue, abbility to swith cursor to “look” etc… I can’t deliver something good enough. Plus it’s missing sounds and tons of other stuff I’ve planned to do. I had enough and it’s no longer fun or anything, just painfull. And if it’s painfull, ther’s no point in doing it any longer.

It was my third LD, quitting is a first.

Dead End

Hi there!

After few hours working on my new project, and the same time trying to register on ludumdare.com, I upload my game here.
Following the Spirit of minimalism I decided to throw away everything from my game – story, dialogues, menus, UI – Even graphics and gameplay. The only thing i kept in it were sounds.

The goal is to take as more things (coins? bonuses? gramophones? – no matter, it just outputs sounds) avoiding our enemy and dodging the obstacles.
You can navigate only using sounds.

The game is turn-based.
Controls
Up – move forward
Left – turn left
Right – turn right
Space – wait
Menu:
Return – begin game
Escape – exit

I recommend playing with good headphones or surround sound system to enhance the game experience.
Download for Linux
(download for Windows will be available later)

scrrrrdeadend
(Enemy is shouting when is blocked by the obstacle)

It’s the end !

Hi everyone !
This is not a game. There is no goal, no fun, nothing, but I’ve finish with.

It’s Python with Pygame.

Sources are here : http://bernery.eu/Ptimonde.zip
The only thing you can do is :

Build walls
Build a roof (to make a room)
Place a TV

(you can access to this by the buttons on the top right)

and … move the guy in house (pink square) with right click, but some bugs exists in the pathfinding.

arrow keys to move the view

I had not enough time and motivation to make what I wanted to do :

The goal was to make a “the sims” like where you can’t control the personage and with a side-view 2D.
What you would must to do is to build a beautiful house for the men who live in. This men is the owner of his small planet where is his house.
To give you the rent for the house you build, he has to mine in his planet. But it’s so small (sorry, I mean tiny :) that the planet shrink progressively,
so the house start to be destroy and you can’t continue to build horizontally. The end of game happen when the planet is completely destroy.
At this time, your score is the rent that you earn during the game. More your house is comfortable, more the rent will be high.

So it’s not finish at all, but it was really fun to participate, I really enjoy to work on this game and I hope doing better the next time.

In France, when someone want to find a good name, he takes an english name. So, I will do the opposite : I called my game “Ptimonde” (which can be translate by ~”SmallWorld”)

Bye and good luck for the end to all participants !

edit : Oh, I forgot to say that it’s under GPLv3 license.

Game over man, game over.

Yep Ive bombed out. Got to the point at 4am last night where I realised I more than likely wouldnt have a game worth submitting by todays deadline.

So thats a bit dissapointing. But it was still a good experience. Im determined to work on everything that let me down for this LD (ie time managment, planning and doing things which are too complex) in preparation for the next LD.

Slight malfunction with the space station :(

So yeh, I at least have a brand new game concept developed, with a great story I want to tell, so Ill more than likely get serious about these leftovers from my LD attempt of a game and make it into something better and an actual game.

I look forward to playing a bunch of games over the next week or so however, to see what all of you successful LD guys have come up with, let the voting commence and Ill be seeing you all again for LD23 in a couple of months :)

… isn’t much different from the end of Saturday, I think.

I wasn’t taking this contest seriously, expecting most of my time to be used up. What I did have left I did very little with. Mostly today I just drew a floating island and added them in. So in 2 days I’ve almost made the overworld. 😛

Link again is here. I’m not submitting as it isn’t a game. But it’s been fun, and I’m looking forward to wasting a couple of weeks playing other people’s entries. 😀
