Hi everyone!

This is my first time at Ludum Dare, well, my first time in any Gam Jam Competition. After a lot of thinking, coffee and headache, finally here is my game. It’s simples and need to be improved in many aspects, but I hope it be enjoyable. Initially, I would submit it at Compo and even thought about give up, but after all I’m so happy to have finished it! 😀

One Earth – First LD!

OneEarth

This was my first Ludum Dare, and my first finished game as well.  I’ve been wracking my brain on several game projects from video to board to card formats.  LD really helped me focus my energies intensely on one project and deadlines work on me so the 48hr limit really helped.

Several of my friends and I worked in the same room which definitely was a boon, and inspired longer hours of work than I’m used to.  Doing the Explosion animations in the game was the best part for me.  I learned a ton of GML in the process (thank you lord google) and can’t wait until next LD!

My game One Earth is about a world in which global warming has become so catastrophic that the only way to save the planet is to immediately revert to primitive times, by destroying all the power plant/ factory rigs.  On this totally watered world you sail in a muscle powered galley to shoot down all the factories.  Coal rigs produce a lot of pollution but have short range artillery.  Nuclear rigs produce little pollution but have massive range.  You only have 1 hp so the levels can be a challenge, but I didn’t want it to be easy.  Hope you enjoy the game and I would love any critique you have to share after playing!

You Only Get One Planet – Progress Update #2

There are less than 10 hours left (we’re going for the Jam) and we finally have something playable. Not anything fancy, but the basic stuff is done.

About 40 hours in we deleted almost everything we had until then, because we had too many problems, and implemented a physics engine.

We still have to add a score results screen, restart/pause buttons, credits e.t.c. to complete our game. Hopefully, we’ll be done in the next 9 hours :/

Still not polished, but physics ftw!

We’re making a game where you have to protect the Earth from meteorites and aliens. We lost a lot of time because we had some problems with the one of our two computers, so now we’re both using one computer :\

Here’s a screenshot of what we’ve got so far:

Angry meteorites are going towards the earth and YOU GOTTA SAVE IT, you only got one!

Progress. Yummy.

Ok, I’ve gotten things done! Feels good. 😀

The character now moves correctly and can shoot laser beams. (Thanks to HyrdroKirby in #pygame and cafesofie in #ludumdare)
I’ve also given the clouds a thicker border to make them look *nicer*
Here’s what it looks like:

Laser beams!

Laser beams!

Too bad it only gets a terrible 16-26FPS. :(
I’ll have to optimize it somehow. The code is extremely rubbish at the moment.
Next up: citizens and tanks.

Conquer The Planet

A long time ago in a not so far away land called MiniLD#20 I attempted to make a game. It was called Conquer The Planet and it completely failed. This time, hopefully, it won’t. The theme was greed, which I’m still going for, but I’m screwing the “only one of an object rule” because that’ll add a whole ‘nother level of complexity I don’t want to deal with. :)

Here’s the original concept idea if you’re interested: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2010/07/16/my-brilliant-idea/
As for the game code, I’m too embarrassed to show anything from that. :(

Wish me luck! (and follow my progress and give me inspiration and motivation and stuff!) 😛
