Oil Co Exploits – no public DropBox for me?

Before bed, switched the map from hand-placed tiles to looped with ellipse-equation constraint. This will allow better programmatic access to the tiles for removal, etc. (hopefully justified investment in function for none-yet gameplay improvement!)

Was about to post link to the current build on Dropbox but I found references to it breaching the terms potentially resulting in account suspension! Given the amount of data I have there, I’ll look for better tomorrow!


p.s. I found the terms mention after 30m fiddling with WebPlayer launching from https sites! Since I didn’t find the answer obviously elsewhere, I’ll mention you need to store a copy of UnityObject.js next to your WebPlayer.html and adjust the HTML to load it from there. This avoids the mixed security concern of the browser. Otherwise, some browsers need to be told to load insecure content (e.g. look for a little shield in address bar in Chrome)


I’m in! – Declaring my libraries

I’m proud to announce that I’ll be able to compete in the  Ludum Dare 24 compo. I will be using someone of my own libraries, and as such, they are, open-source and free for everybody to use. You can download/gawk at/go to praise them here.

You may have noticed something about my libraries. They’re for the command line driver “ncurses”. That’s right, I’m going retro – this is going to be a command-line entry. I may use SDL for sound if I have time for that, but that’s the plan. Anybody who wants to watch me work during the compo can catch me on IRC with the nick “oldtopman”. Binaries will be released for Linux 64 bit, then cross compiled as soon as I have access to my other machines.

Also, for the first time, I will *not* be hosting other people’s entries. Dropbox has a fully functioning web host function, and their uptime surpasses mine by miles. If you need some help setting up Dropbox, or if you don’t have an account, sign up here and find me on IRC.

You can run Unity webplayer builds directly off DropBox! I did not know this – just discovered it by looking at someone else’s entry (hat tip to Doktor Ace). Useful thing to know about for Unity devs.

I just managed to get Lonely Fortress more-or-less playable by the deadline. No music, and a lot less gameplay than I planned (not even a win screen – it was that tight). But what a great exercise! I love having to do everything yourself.

I think the adrenaline is finally wearing off so I can go to bed. ‘Night.
