Well, I got something done at least, and uploaded.

Originally, I intended to take it easy, start from scratch and go for the Compo- try to use Visionaire Studio’s new WebGL biz, then the theme hit and I couldn’t resist.  I hit this LD’s theme better in 35, but Ee-yore.

What I got has some bugs, absolutely no point, and you can do some things- not many, but some.  The Mac version is RIGHT HERE.

Post Jam will bring an update and a Windows version.

Thanks all- have played some cool games already!  Grand LD- I was on the fence, but was in the moment I watched the Keynote.  That will stay with me…

Thanks for playing!

juego

Finally! I close the game, it have some bugs, like any kind of game done in this time but is playable and complete 😀

The game have an intro, a tutorial, and the big game where you have to survive and destroy all the aliens to finally see the winners screen 😉 The dinosaurs that you may find are random each time you start the game, but since there is only 1 enemy, it’s easy to beat with any combination.

I started the gamedesign searching for a new kind of tower defense, while experiencing with construct 2 options, i found that this combination of behaviours and options are quite fun, each dinosaur ended with its own personality and thats something i loved. Also the graphics that Hector created are lovely and fits perfect with the game intention.

Well no more words, you can play it in:

Now with the help of Hector Alegre, finally the game may have an original and funny look 😀

For the other side, the game is almost on its maximum for a gamejam, with 3 different “Dino-tower defenders” it’s enough, so im going to focus on level design.Clipboard02

I’m in, with Creature Cutouts!

creaturecutouts

After struggling a whole day to come up with ideas for LD #35, I finally settled for one that I feel has some potential to be at least a bit interesting. Above is the first render (using PIXI) of a paper cutout that is to be one of the building blocks in the game.

Build A Dinosaur! (from littlefamilyfun.com)

I got the idea from the picture above. Creating creatures from simple shapes seems like a neat idea and “just” by adding physics to the joints they will come alive just like that. Now, I wont probably have time to allow for creating this awesome and walking dinosaurs, but there will be some kind of joints with movements.

Progress Report, and Time to Sleep!

5 AM now, and I have to sleep 😛

But I’m happy that I did some good looking progress:

development_3

I found a very nice parallax background class for Libgdx, and managed to sort out the back end of sprite loading for my fliers.

Next in the plate is difficulty progression, and finishing out the weapons and basic enemy types, and after that I can start working on polish :-)

I guess things are coming together!

This is my inspiration for the game this LD:

13 hours in, this is the reality XD:

development_1

Well, I will not give up! We will have dinosaurs with lasers before the end of the 48 hours! :-)

As of now, I have finished the main game loop, and the base mechanics (victory, game over, upgrade selection, lives, scores, input selection, enemy timelines, ROAR). Time to start adding art. Let’s see if I can draw pixel dinosaurs!

ROAAAAAR!

Ok, got the idea down, now time to get on working!

“You only get one” is not a bad theme at all.

I spent one hour thinking about the different ways that I could tackle this theme, and had quite a few ideas. One thing that came up almost immediately was a “shoot them up” where you only get one upgrade – every level you must choose which upgrade you are going to use for that level.

Now, that seems such an obvious Idea, that I tried to think a few others before setting.

Something that also came up was a “dating simulator” – You only get one also fits very well with that. The problem is that dating simulators depend too much on their art and content to be fun, and that is something that I know I can’t do well in just a weekend. After playing with the idea for a while, I soon tossed it out.

Another idea that came up was “EXTREME GEOCACHING” – basically a dungeon game where you have to find a hidden item, and you can get the help of one friend, who will give you some sort of power. Then I realized that this is just a more complicated version of the first idea (one power), and a variation of my first LD game to boot. To the trash!

Another idea is some variation of “You only get one (try)” – but that seems even more obvious than the first idea, and no good implementation comes to mind.

So I’m going to go with the Shoot Them Up thing. If the idea is not unique, how can I make it an awesome game?

One word: DINOSAURS!

Dinosauria!

Well then, I was a bit slow, and I missed compo’s submission deadline. There’s still some things in the game that need finishing, not to mention it has no sound yet, so, I’m going for the Jam.

This game is called Dinosauria Square (name probably final), and it’s about dinosaurs that live by eating rabbits, and breed and use their fancy dinosaur dancing moves to seduce females! But due to the lack of time, every dinosaur is female … and also male … I guess, so you can breed with anybody. Every dinosaur has stats that evolve over generations (if you breed carefully!) such as strength, speed, vitality and attractiveness. Also, your ultimate goal is to defeat the ultimate dragon demon dinosaur god thing that lives in some secluded cave!

so here’s the concept:

dinobalt

sure it looks like dinorun but I dont care, the control constraints seemed to scream ‘running game’ at me and I wanted to do a dinosaur game anyway so thats what Ima do.

the actual game will be in 3D though, and unlike run or balt, you’ll be able to go both right, AND left! I know going left in video games is like dark voodoo but whatevs, ima do it!
