It’s been hard, but we’ve finally managed to finish our little game and, well, I’d recommend you check it out!

Two adventurers come into an abandoned temple with a quest to find a legendary gem.
Unfortunately, they turn on an ancient security system that will kill them in 60 seconds.

There’s only way to get out of this situation – our heroes have to hack the security system and open the doors before they die. Fortunately, one of them specializes in ancient operating systems and knows perfectly what to do.

The game features never before heard voice acting with a Slavic accent, astonishing graphics, breathtaking animations and okay gameplay!

What went good?

  • The idea is pretty cool I guess,
  • Muh wonderful vector graphics (Inkscape ftw!),
  • We’ve finished it! Yay!

What went bad?

  • Could have more puzzles,
  • Could have more story in it’s story mode,
  • Could be Half-Life 3.

Actually it's just how the cutscene will look like, not yet implemented inside the game.

Don’t let the atmosphere fool you, this is just a simple puzzle game. But maybe it will grow into something bigger after Ludum Dare, who knows? Well, I don’t.

We’ve missed a few Ludum Dares… well, actually we weren’t doing any programming at all for some time. But the important thing it we’re back and plan to do our best at Ludum Dare 36! (also, check out the new logo above)

We’re like a phoenix raising from the place phoenixes raise from! Like a turtle hatching from it’s egg at the beach, except we’re not turtles nor are at the beach! Like a beautiful larva morphing into an ugly butterfly!

Who are we then!?

  • Kacper “kacperski1” Herchel – That’s me. Doing programming, wonderful vector art, mediocre pixel art, meh sounds and plain bad music! Interests: fast cars and Dr Pepper,
  • Maciej “Macron” Ziółkowski – That’s not me. Doing master-level programming, wonderful placeholders, mediocre placeholders, I shoot you not, he does all kinds of placeholders! Interests: placeholders,

There’s also THCobra who will not really help us, but may give us an idea or two… and that’s it, ’cause almost everyone else willing to help is currently on vacation. Damn.

What are we gonna use!?

  • Programming – C++ with the astonishing IDE of Code::Blocks and SFML libraries. No game engine – let’s reinvent the wheel!
  • Graphics – Inkscape for muh wonderful vector art, GIMP for muh mediocre pixel art and all the placeholders,
  • Sound – Audacity and all these open source sound generators. Maybe freesound.org ’cause we’ll probably go for the Jam like always.
  • Music – I’m crappy at music, but if it’s really needed I’m gonna use LMMS for that. Brace yourselves.
  • Target platforms – I am using Arch Linux, and Macron’s using Win10 + a VM with Antergos, so we’ve got the PCs covered. Sorry, OS X/macOS users.
  • Communication – Hangouts! We’ve ditched Skype as it was just getting shittier with every release.
  • Food – Various combinations of whatever we’re gonna find in our fridges. For me, probably toasts and instant soups.
  • Drinks – Dr Pepper all the way!

That came out way longer that I originally assumed, so let’s end it here. Happy Ludum Daring, everyone!

Unfortunately we didn’t manage to finish the game.

We had too high expectations and been (well, mostly I’ve been) too lazy. The game will be uploaded anyway, but don’t expect very much – it’s just not ready yet.

If we had at least twice as much time, Cats Don’t Kill People could be a pretty good game. But it isn’t. The thing you will be able to download in few hours is just a small sneak peek of what we want to include in the game.

So at least let me tell you what the game was supposed to be about:

CDKP is a game about a serial killer, who murders people using cats with knives taped to them. Kitties aren’t clever, but they do like petting and chasing laser beams. You have to exterminate everyone without getting noticed. The game features a suspicion meter – if the people get too suspicious about you or your cats, they call the police – you lose. Killed everyone without getting noticed? You win.

Sooo that’s it. Take a look at this beautiful cat:

We’re getting closer and closer to passing the first day mark.

Our concept is a game where you control a serial killer who uses cats with knives duct-taped to them. The main idea is that the main character stays outside the target building and murders people by inserting the kitties into ventilation channels. Cats aren’t very smart, yet are intelligent enough to walk.

Cats!We need name ideas for these fluffy kitties, got any?

You could ask us – but BlackCode, how do cats actually kill? – and here’s the answer: they don’t. It’s the people who just can’t resist petting their fluffy bodies, harming themselves to death in result.

What, you thought that we aren’t in for Ludum Dare 32!? How dare you!?

Hahahah, got it? That wasn’t even funny. Well anyway, we are in! And by us, I mean:

  • Kacper “kacperski1” Herchel – that’s me – programming stuff, graphics, sounds, drinking Dr Pepper,
  • Maciej “Macron” Ziółkowski – even more programming stuff, placeholders, yelling at me.
  • Umberto, Victorion999, zabujca405 – maybe some sounds, maybe some ideas. They are always somewhat helpful.

And what kind of “I’m in” post would it be if I didn’t write out a list of things that we’re going to use!

  • Programming: C++
    • IDE: Code::Blocks,
    • Target platforms: Windows, Linux, maybe Android,
  • Graphics:
    • Inkscape for vector graphics,
    • Photoshop and GIMP for pixelart,
    • MS Paint for Macron’s beautiful placeholders.
  • Audio:
    • Audacity for recording and mixing,
    • FL Studio for music creation,
  • Testing on Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 14.04.
  • I’m actually out of Dr Pepper so better get some before the LD.

Also, because in Poland the Jam starts at 3:00 AM, we’re going to do something at night until then. And because we’re programmers, I am not including an if you know what I mean joke here.

Before the LD, we’ll be playing some of the best multiplayer games of all time, including but not limited to:

  • Left 4 Dead 2,
  • Worms Armageddon,
  • and Monaco!

Wow, I’ve written a lot of text. So let me just say that I wish everyone happy Ludum Dare’ing! Have fun guys!

Heck yeah, we’ve managed to finish our little platformer, REPROPULSOR. It’s way shorter than it was supposed to be. Like almost every of our LD games.

Wow. BlackCode Studio, the creators of Kamil the Cat series, Cases, Seminecata, Altrein’s Portal, Simplified and few other games is in. Yup, I know, that’s unbelievable.

So the team looks almost exactly as always:

  • Programming – Maciej “Macron” Ziółkowski, Kacper “kacperski1” Herchel
  • Graphics – Kacper “kacperski1” Herchel
  • Sound – everyone
  • Music – Grzegorz “zabujca405” Bąkowski (maybe)

And the software and other things that we’ll be using:

  • Ultra-fast NASA-like computers with Windows 7 and Windows 10 TP running,
  • The most powerful 2D game creating combination – C++ with SFML 2.1,
  • Code::Blocks as IDE,
  • Inkscape, Photoshop, Gimp and Anime Studio for graphics,
  • Audacity for sounds,
  • AIMP3 as the best possible music player. And some music of course.

Yeah, that’s pretty much all. Have fun everybody!

Yes, another time the creators of The Unbelievable Adventures of Kamil the Cat, Kamil the Cat’s Unbelievable Party, Simplified, Cases and the upcoming Kamil the Cat 2 (check our new website for more info) are in! And we are very modest, why would you even think that we’re not!?

But this time we have a planned a little challenge. I mean me and Macron.

Yes, we’ll create 2 separate games. Maybe even for the Compo instead of Jam, but it depends if 2 days are enough. Anyway, the tradition says that now I should write down what software are we going to use, so let’s do that:

  • Language – C++
  • Engine – SFML 2.1
  • Art – Photoshop, Inkscape, Paint (for placeholders)
  • Animation – Flash, Anime Studio
  • Sounds & Music – FL Studio, Audacity, SFXR

And other things: (this applies to me, I have no idea what Macron’s gonna listen to/eat/drink)

  • Listening to – System of a Down, Kontrust (using the best player available – AIMP3)
  • Eating – toasts, instant soups, some normal food for dinner
  • Drinking – Dr Pepper

Anyway, I’d like to say good luck to everyone participating in the 30th Ludum Dare :) (zwłaszcza Polakom – do boju! :D)

Yes, you were right – BlackCode Studio, the creators of The Unbelievable Adventures of Kamil the Cat and Kamil the Cat’s Unbelievable Party, also winners of 54 Oscars* and 23 Pie-eating contests*. This time we want to make something other than Kamil the Cat game again 😀

Who exactly is in?

  • Kacper “kacperski1” Herchel – programming, graphics, sounds
  • Maciej “MacronCPP” Ziółkowski – programming, some graphics

Probably also

  • Grzegorz “zabujca405” Bąkowski – music (haven’t you heard the awesome one-string guitar in Kamil the Cat!?)
  • Arkadiusz “Victorion999” Victor – sounds
  • Weronika “Orisagi” Grabowska – graphics, but not crappy ones like mine or MacronCPP’s 😛

And what will we be using?

  • C++ with SFML 2.1 (yes, we finally updated our 2.0 RC version :P),
  • CodeBlocks as the IDE,
  • Adobe Photoshop for pixel-arts, Inkscape for vectors and PaintTool SAI for hand-drawn ones,
  • FL Studio, SFXR and Audacity for sounds,
  • Skype to be able to talk to each other,
  • XSplit Broadcaster, maybe I’ll be streaming :v
  • Chronolapse to make a timelapse video later
