Noudar486 - raid on citadel

by montyontherun - Mini LD Entry

This is, admittedly, a rush job.
Unfortunately, I was only aware of the MiniLD past two weeks after it's start and thus had only one week to work. Not only that, but I do have some homework due and will have to deliver earlier in order to focus on order stuff.

Coumponded with that, I was only able to finally run the game on a real 486 a few moments ago and realized it was WAY slower than I predicted. I was running with DOSBox at around 20000 cycles and should be running with a little over 5500 cycles.

The game is more a tech demo than a real game. You're a futuristic soldier that went back in the past and must defeat the knights in a medieval citadel.

This is, actually, the first level of a game I'm working on, with a gun I designed 15 years ago, tacked on and with added firing game logic added. The idea is to be sort of a turn based First Person RPG, not unlike Wizardry or Orcs and Elves.

The graphics are murky because I screwed up with Mode 13H and this was the best palette I could come up in 5 minutes.

To run, you will need at least a 486 with 8MB of RAM and a math co-processor. Graphivcs were done in OpenGL (!!!), using Mesa Offscreen renderer and the game was written in C++14, using GCC. I would recommend you the fastest machine you could use.

W walks forward
S walks backward
A strafe left
D strafe right
Q turn left
E turn right
H shoots

Why the strange controls? Well, the keyboard in my 486 is severely faulty. Those keys are the ones that work well. In fact, I had to rename the directory and executable in Windows (95) in order to actually run it.

I like it. It runs almost fine on my DosBox. But I don't have actual DOS hardware.

Thank you! I hope to deliver a even better game eventually!

Will you release it as a DOS title?

Despite the download link saying it's Windows, it is a DOS title.

(But to be honest, this is not really my target project. But yes, I intend to have the game I'm working on available for DOS too)
