by RttStudio - Mini LD 69 Entry

(!Warning english is not my main language, sorry if I made any mistakes!)
MizzleBury is mostly a strategy game. Having a really old classic feel to it.

Requirement- a screen resolution of at least 800x800.

Controls - mouse click.

I really suggest reading the help window in the bottom left to help
understanding the game. If you got any question or something you don't
understand feel free to email me or leave a comment.

A bit of game story :
MizzleBury take place in the year 927 in a parallel universe of magical
steampunk. You live as a drone commander who need to colonize the MizzleBury
region with the help of your fellow soldiers. The region of MizzleBury is
consisted of many different flying islands. Each holding different dangers
and treasures.

A bit about How it was done:
I became aware of the mini Ludum dare only the 29 of July so I really rushed
that project, but I'm really proud of the results. To make this game I used
Unity for the engine, and Piskel for my sprites. Everything in the game was
made by me except the soundtrack that was made by NINE a friend of mine,
and I did not used any old assets I had already made.

A bit about me :
I'm an inspiring game dev, mostly focusing on learning programming skills.
I've been doing game dev for less than a year so I'm still really new to
this. But I got a lot experience as a player. This is my second game jam,
the first one being LD35. I absolutely LOVE gamejams, so this is why even
if I became aware of this one pretty late, I decided to participate anyway.

Thanks for trying my game, please leave a comment! :)

Edit 1 - Added soundtrack
Edit 2 - fixed the volume not saving up cause it was annoying.

I get that you were going the most for the feel, and you definitely accomplished that. I also enjoyed how the game was perfectly clear, and I could easily understand it.

I may be misunderstanding how the underlying logic of the game works (it's not entirely clear and kind of hard to get a conceptual grasp from just reading a series of logbook entries), but it seems like when you destroy hostiles from an enemy island, it should update the estimated number of hostiles that displays on your compass, instead of having to scan again to update the number. Also, the text under the compass doesn't update after you've defeated an island until you click on the island again.

Also, resetting the game should probably not reset the music volume (I had the music volume set to 1 and jumped about a foot in my chair when I hit the reset button :P)

It's also not clear from the beginning how you're supposed to get goo. It seems that it's added when you defeat an island sometimes, but not always, and the amount varies. Is it just random, or is there some underlying rule that determines which island you'll get goo from and which you won't? Is there a strategy you can use to crease your goo production?

Furthermore, how is the amount of crystalite you harvest determined? Is that also random? Does it depend on how many drones you have? Does it depend on the island? Why do some entries in the logbook show in blue while others show in white? How is the number of kills vs. casualties determined? I could go on. It certainly seems like there are some underlying rules here, that have been programmed and balanced around, but the game fails to communicate those rules to the player in the depth that they need in order to function at even a fairly basic level. A strategy game won't be fun if the player doesn't even know the rules.

First of all thanks for the review, I think this will help me a lot to future update the game. it's true that the amount of enemy destroyed should be remove from the last scan data. I will correct the fact that the music reset too, I added this a bit at rush cause I was already late, sorry for the jump xD. Okay so for resources, when you defeat or scavenge you get a random chance of getting any resource at random except crystalite. There's no particular rule son which island drops what. I'm surprised though, cause I usually get too much goo. For the crystalite calculation, it's random except for the fact that planets have level 1 to 3 planet 3 having more hostiles ( this should also be added to the scan.) higher level planets giving more loot (goo,cogs,drones...) For the color in the logbook, it changes everytime you change day. Uneven days are blue, and even days are white. This was supposed to help the player following the logs. The main point of kills and casualties are the more drone you have the more kills and the more hostiles the more casualties. The full formula is quite long and complicated, that is why it is not explained, cause i did not want to throw too many informations at the player. The problem is that a strategy game usually need a fairly long moment to understand fully, but most players who try game jams game don't want to read a big chunk of text before trying a game that is maybe not even worth it. I really appreciate your review, I'm not taking it badly, a lot of what you said will help me improve it. Hope you still liked it and enjoyed. :)

Hi !
First, good idea according to the theme. ;)
Second, great job ! You do that in 3 days...
About the game, I think that it become boring quickly. Actually, after having 4 planets, I can easily have crystalite for my drones, after that I just have to scavenge, built a lot of drones, upgrade them a little, and the galaxy is mine (muahahah :D).
So it's funny at start, but you should add more resistance I think because it's too easy.
An other thing that I didn't understand. Sometimes a planet that I never attacked become red, and the day after, all hostiles are dead and the planet is mine. Hostiles die with time ?... I think it's a bug ?
Keep creating games ! (and next time, take more time to do it, I want to see results with more days !)

First of all - wow for it being made in just 2 days it's really really good. I like the atmosphere of the game, the background music and the simple graphic with just the few colors...
At first i tried it without reading the help and died really quick because I didn't know how to earn Crystallite... I tried it several times since then but could not yet conquer the whole world :) But it's really fun...
