Island Warfare

Me and a friend (Icecold) created this game over the past 8 days. For reasons, we were not able to work on anything the first two weeks. This is also our first time doing a Ludum Dare.

What you have to do in this game is sail around and conquer islands. The end goal of this game is to capture all 100 islands. Some islands may be inhabited by other groups, and you will have to kill them to be able to capture it. As time goes on your islands will collect more people, and after that, create more buildings on the island. AI owned islands will also gather more people and buildings, and at somepoint may create a boat that will attack you. At some point your villagers may build a shop where you can buy health and cannonballs.

You move around with W, A, S, D.
You shoot by clicking with a mouse or trackpad.
If you ever find yourself stuck in an island, press the F key and eventually you might get unstuck.
M to pull up map.
Blue map icon means that the island is yours, Red means that an enemy owns it, and white means that its neutral.
Health can only be regened by buying it from a store on one of your islands.
Cannon balls can only be gotten from stores, and killing enemy AI boats.
To open the store, you have to click on it with your mouse.

Originally had nice animated waves, but lag was too much.

You cannot pause the game!!!

Recommended to play in fullscreen.

Nice game :) even the thing about pressing F if you get stuck, I don't if it's a bug you're working on solving or is proposital, but it fits well in the game: you get too close to the beach (land, whatever) and your ship might get stuck and need to be pushed somehow.

What I feel you should add is something to pinpoint where you are when you are seeing the map (after pressing M). I had to guide myself based on the blue islands and keeping track of the last one I visited.

But I know, 8 days. Cool game!

What a great game. I think it would be even better if this was a type of game, multiplayer and people colonizing islands. I could even help develop a html version of the game if you like. Other than that, what you have made so far is awesome, except for the "press f" part. I died because of that.

Cool game, I'd recommend disabling firing cannonballs while the tutorial is up, as scrolling and closing it require clicking, resulting in several wasted shots.

@Javabot, we were thinking about it being multiplayer, like you said where people go around an claim islands. But we wanted to stay away from networking as it is a hassel and much more coding required. Thank you for the offer though!

@Siridakis Thanks for the reply, and yes we are going to add the pinpoint like you said. As for the press F part, the player would get stuck inside the islands (as you still do) so we needed that the player could get unstuck, tempory fix but will probably get fixed later. Thanks again for the reply!
