Invade

Tired of blasting aliens in invaders? Would rather join their ranks? Well in my new game Invade the tables have been turned! press WASD to move, C to fire, and P to pause. The autonomous for the one enemy isn't very great, and there's no music or real GUI yet, but don't worry there'll be a post jam version! Also the screen wraps! Leave a comment if you enjoyed (or if you didn't) I could use some feedback.

Interesting idea! It'd be nice if the aliens sped up as they descend and fall in number. Also it'd be nice if the player was a little "smarter" with firing bullets like aiming and firing instead of straight mini-gunning it. Another thing missing is cover, it'd be nice to have those bunkers and you could destroy to help the aliens shoot the player.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll be sure to make an addition of cover in the Post Jam version and your totally the player could stand to be a bit smarter...I'm working on it

I agree the opponent could stand to be smarter. Maybe each successive player could be smarter than the previous? I think it's a neat idea. The only thing I can think of that is missing from the game is that you can never really take advantage of the fact that there are many of you and only one enemy.

It would've worked well for the "You are the Monster" theme from last year.

A great start! I agree with what's been said above so I won't repeat it. I was a "bit" confused by who I was until I moved a little, but that wasn't an issue since I wasn't in the line of fire of the player. I'd enjoy seeing the post-jam version with the additions you mentioned!

Great idea and a strong start. Highlighting the active ship you're controlling might be useful. Lots of possibilities I'm sure you've thought of, I like the idea of the enemy ship getting power-ups. Good luck with the post jam version.

Sometimes it's fun being the bad guy :) Good idea.

why are those sprites seem familiar to me? did you use the random sprite generator by boris?

I think the human ship should take longer to re-spawn, currently killing it doesn't seem to help much because it's back in a few milliseconds.

Sorry for double posting but I forgot to say,
using WASD + C for fire is uncomfortable, you can't move right(D) and shoot with one hand, with WASD keys I usually prefer to use Space/Ctrl/Alt/etc..

I did use the random sprite generator! I'm a programmer not an artist haha and I'll move the fire button to something more appropriate, also don't worry I'm almost finished with the Post Jam version and the autonomous for the human ship has been completely redesigned.

Interesting concept! The one way vertical wrapping seemed odd though. I could travel to the bottom and reappear above the top of the screen, but not the other way around. Is this a bug or feature? Also, is there currently a win condition?

I've since implemented a win condition in the Post Jam version, which I'm preparing to release shortly and i didn't want players to be able to wrap up under the enemy ship because it would be easy to win

Neat idea switching sides, already mentioned, the controls (wasd + c) feel a little awkward, maybe wasd + space for fire (with thumb) or arrows + space. Fun to play either way.
