by - Mini LD 60 Entry

This is the first game that I attempted in a jam, and the first of many where the time limit completely destroyed me. It was for the for the Escape theme, which (for the record) was more than a Mayan apocalypse ago. I did eventually finish the game (well, mostly -- I never did put any sound in).

So, here it is. Since this is more of a post-jam, I'm not going to have it scored, but I would love feedback on the game.

Spike-House README

Spike-House is a platformer with:
* randomly generated levels
* multiplayer races
* a speed run mode with fixed levels
* manually set respawn points to limit frustration
* spikes

From the Title Screen:
* The regular door goes to the game.
* The M door goes to multiplayer.
* The SR door goes to a timed speed run.
* The 20 door warps you to level 20.

The game was written with Python & Pygame.

Esc = quit
w, a, d, left, right, up = movement
s, down = sets respawn point
space bar, right shift = sprint
left, right = movement
button 0 = jump
button 1 = set respawn
button 2 = sprint

You don't have to press away to wall jump.
You get to double-jump even after a wall jump.

Speed Run Timer:
Hundredths a second.
Thousandths of a second.

The player sprite is taken from the original art

Generating maps is unfinished: some levels are impossible to pass and levels are supposed to getting harder, but game is cool through.
Also where can I find source?

The levels will often have areas you can't reach, but they are not needed in order to get to the exit. As your level goes up, more spikes are generated, and while some levels are impossible, the game does try to keep that from happening. Also, I didn't put the source up because, well, it's kind of ugly.

really awesome game. The platforming feels really tight the randomly designed levels are really cool.

I do have to agree with Knowledge, some of those randomly design levels were just too hard at times. They're passable, but you need wicked precision to pull off some of those jumps. But I will say that this game is pretty cool. The control scheme was very tight and jumping around was a blast! Overall, pretty good game. :D

One thing that keeps the game from getting too frustrating is that you respawn from the cross, which you can set with the down button in the keyboard, or with one of the joystick buttons.

Also, the game is really tough without a joystick.

Yeah, I noticed that feature! I thought it was a very clever mechanic and it really did help minimize the difficultly.

The game is really frustrating. And like in angry birds, it is the this frustration that make you keep on playing. In a way it's the frustrating parts of the game, that makes it good.

Really challenging game! I included your game in part 2 of my MiniLD #60 compilation video series, if you would like to check it out :)
