Ponquest

by tanjent - Mini LD 58 Entry

Bounce your Pong ball around the temple and escape back to the regular Pong universe!

Use your mouse and drag on the screen to create a paddle for the Pong ball to bounce onto. Navigate the temple and its obstacles to escape! Think horizontally and inside the box!

First time using HTML5. Game is about 9 MB big. Tested to work on Chrome on Nexus 5 and 7 (2012). Also works on Firefox, Win7.

I like the mechanic of drawing a paddle on the screen with two endpoints. Also changing the ball color to get through different colored barriers is a sound concept. I personally would have preferred being able to see more of the play area at once to be able to use more strategy than just randomly bouncing around until it can be figured out. I eventually hit something and turned the screen dark. The ball got all sparkly but nothing happened from there. I couldn't tell if that was sudden death without warning, winning the game or just a glitch. With some polishing and refinement this has great potential.

Well, that's you winning the game!!! :) (= my inspiration ran out and I had to wrap it up somehow) I think you bring up some very good points. Thanks for playing!

Totally agree with Dan Norder.
Also the physics seemed kind of "fishy".
I don't know, if the bounces aren't 100% elastic (aka. intentional) or it's just rounding errors, though...
The ball often got "stuck" bouncing between 2 walls even though it hit the 1st wall at an angle.

Love this game! It is quite cool, drawing the paddle, though I suck at it. I included it in part 2 of my MiniLD #58 compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/8Fjfspgiu5w
