Theme: facade, scheme, conspiracy, deceit – hosted by Pekuja – January 2014

"Masquerade" is a two-player game in which the objective is for one player (the thief) to collect as many coins as possible while going unnoticed by the other player (the detective), by blending in with a crowd of NPCs. The objective for the detective is to correctly identify and eliminate the player character among the NPCs. It riffs on the themes of facade and deceit.
My original intention had been to make the role of the thief more objective-based rather than just collecting coins, but, given time constraints, I'm pretty pleased I actually got something to the playable state... my main concern is that it's ended up being a very similar gameplay mechanic to Hidden In Plain Sight, but I'm not actually displeased by that!

Thanks for the comment! Yes I agree about HiPS - it wasn't intended to be so similar - my original idea had been to make the role of the thief more objective-based - collect different items, perform certain tasks etc., and the "coin-collecting" objective was inserted just as a placeholder. Then, time ran out and the placeholder was still there ;)
Point noted about the jittery rotation as well - there's something funny going on with the animation-blending code. I'll add it to the to-do list!
I only played with myself and I must say I like the idea of asymmetric games. I never saw the objective of the thief (how many coins). Nicely done graphics and music.
This is quite a fun game! It's a quick game to pick up and incredibly addictive.

Reminds me a lot of hidden in plain sight on the xbox.
Which is a game I like :). I think it would be nice to smooth the rotation controls for the thief though.
Cheers,
