Fundamental shift in how we think about RTS control scheme. Built with Unity. Based on new Protocol E Control scheme.
WASD or Left Click: Move Your Hero
Space Bar: Summon Troops
Right Click/ Draw on Ground: Position Troops
Left Click Drag: Box Select
Too exhausted to do a writeup about control scheme. Check out this video explaining motivations and idea:

Lol thanks! :D I only have two levels in this tiny, tiny game - so the timer is a cheap way of stopping people from finishing. :D Perhaps it could be made more generous though... I'll tweak that now if that's still allowed...
Was cool mixing the hero control with a swarm of bots, like Orava said it defiantly felt good. Though would be nice if the character moved a little faster. Sound was a bit loud, ouch on the first shot :p.
First hero's loud shot scared me! Introduction text scenes are nice and controls are straightforward.
The game controls really well but I wish you could make all the units move toward the same point, I had to spam right click because it didnt let me assign one point for all of them to go to. Graphics were slightly lacking, but for the time limit it was good. Overall I liked it, I think you pulled off good feeling gameplay which is a great thing to do in such a short time. I hope you continue this because I think with more polish it could be really cool :D
Thanks for the comments guys! Sorry about the loud sound. I had my speaker volume a bit low when I was making it >_<.
zlowrance! I am totally horrified that you spammed right click. All you need to do is DRAW, or make a continuous mouse motion while holding down right click. The whole goal of the control scheme is to avoid spamming. >_< I should've explained it better in the tut.
It was fun! yeah the sounds scared me as well. I liked the timer but then I never figured out how to get to the second level I went everywhere. I really liked the Idea of the draw your armys positions and thought the hero control unit was well done... I wished that drawing out better concave troop formations mattered but it seemed like a death ball in front with your hero and healers in back was the best... really liekd the text showing controls etc good staring level. good use of unity but wish the sprites where a little better not sure what the difrence betwwen troops was other then the healers wichh I thought was super cool! except when at one point they where healing the enemy? really cool over all Good job!
Really original gamestyle. Please continue with this game after the compo :D (but with better graphics ofc ^^)
Thanks for the encouragement guys! A bunch of my friends are I are actually working on a 'real' project that uses this control scheme already. It's called Protocol E.

Although the graphics in Warblocks is really primitive, it actually shows some advancements over Protocol E (which is generally more polished). New features are:
-Time attack game mode
-Healer bots
-Ability to command multiple unit types
These features will be put right into Protocol E at some point next month. :)
This kind of command scheme should actually play very nice on touchscreens. RTS on touchscreens is still kind of difficult control wise, and I will possibly add this to my list of possible solutions to possible problems :)
I'm definitely a fan of the control scheme. It seems like it's got some potential.
It's nice idea but on my laptop kinda hard to play with this control ^^
Wow, thanks for more encouragement guys! It really boosts my own personal motivation.
Nooo Makio :( Can you maybe borrow a USB mouse from someone? They're very abundant nowadays. It's currently designed for that kind of platform.
In the future, we are looking at putting this on touch devices - absolutely. And also The Leap Motion Plus. :)
This definitely has interesting gameplay, so nice work on that! And I agree that it would be cool to get this on touchscreen devices
Cool control scheme and general gameplay. Graphics definitely need some work, and the audio was really loud. Give it a slightly faster pace and have it be like WW2 Tanks or something instead of space alien dudes with lasers and I could see myself playing it more.
I struggled a bit with the control scheme, specifically ordering multiple units to go someplace. I eventually had them all follow me and charged.
Draw on the ground with a continuous motion with the mouse. Hold down right click and draaaaaaaaaawwwwww.

The controls feel good indeed, but the timer really adds nothing but frustration because you can't do anything but bumrush through or run out of time.
