Pirate AaaaaRTS!

by vincepascoe - 7dRTS / Mini LD 44 Entry

Single player rts.

went solo and made my first "finished" video game.
Much more challenging then expected.
there is a win condition, 8 Levels.
Ai and pathing and controls are sketchy.

have your pirates defeat the enemy captain before you loose all your pirates or they defeat your captain.

I'm most happy with the music I wrote and some fun sword fighting folley.

Hey, not a bad effort for a first attempt. Keep at it! You probably already know there are lots of problems with this game, so I wont list the ones I've found. But the key thing to remember is, you will get better at this if you just keep going. Good luck!

There're some bugs yeah, but good for a first game.

Like others have said, great for a first game especially an RTS which is not an easy type of game to create. The music is very good and, as an admirer of bad puns, I love the title.

If you can you should keep working on it, try to fix the bugs and post the game on the frontpage, it'll really improve your skills. Then come back for in a months time for LD27 and make an amazing game in 48 hours with your new skills.

One suggestion I'd give would be to get rid of the installer, you'll probably get a lot more plays if you do.

Well done! I like the music and the simple controls. I don't quite like the installer. And sometimes pirate movement is a bit weird. Continue making games!

Not too bad but there are a few bugs that stand out.

I really liked the animation that you had on the little pirate guys! I am guessing that you didn't get to this phase of the development, but I wasn't sure what types of decisions I needed to be making, it felt like the solution to every level was "put all the pirates on the enemy".

Lots of bugs, but it's playable, winnable, and losable. The big changes every level keep things interesting.

Thanks for all the comments! I didn't do level design untill the last day when I did level design and music... my most productive day but I should have done more thinking about the levels sooner. really sorry about the exe file would a zip be ok? or in the future should I just do a web game?

Like karlin said: Please no installer in the future. If I would have to install every game I play in Ludum Dare, my registry would double in size in no time. A standalone executable or a zip which run without installation are fine for me, others go as far as to only play web games. Generally speaking: installer < standalone "portable" program < web.
So, depending on how determined you are, you can try to climb up that ladder as high as you want.

Would like to not have to start from the start when I lose :(
Good job for first game though!

Advice: Use WASD for camera movement. Please. Apart from that, many bugs overall not very good, but it is a good attempt.
