Whew, I did it! =)
This was done over a couple of days with Construct 2 and uses the ZX Spectrum's palette and a 128x128 resolution.
I manually bumped the resolution up 3x to 384x384, but the entire game was built on 128x128 as required. =)
I had quite a lot of fun: I like working on small resolutions and it helps me since I can't draw at all. =)
Hope you guys and gals will enjoy playing the game as much as I enjoyed putting it together. =D

Good overall for this game. The step by step destroy sequence for the boss or the teleport ending animation are adding a lot to the player experience. With more enemies to use my gun against it would be even better ! :)
haha, this was pretty cool, although it was confusing that my gun didn't actually destroy anything except doors and stuff
@itsjfletch :
That's exactly what I was aiming for: making people want to play Metroid! Really! =D
@Benjamin :
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the details since it was quite hard cramming them in. =D
@onefineline & @Benjamin :
I actually wanted to include enemies you could smash with the gun, but I ran out of time. =P
More uses for the gun would have been nice, but I didn't really mind as I liked the platforming/exploration gameplay. And the simple art style and lack of story exposition (though you still got a sense that the teleporter thingy was important) complemented it quite nicely.
@ilo :
Glad you liked the game! =)
And yes, the gun is almost useless as it is, but I've always favored exploration over shooting. =D
That was great! You didn't give yourself enough credit as an artist - it looked great.
I realize the short time probably made this impossible, but some ambient noise or music would have really hit this home for me.
@Rococoman :
Thank you, you've been very kind! =)
Regarding sound, I actually wanted to include some ambient noise here and there, but I had a problem with Construct 2 during development and had to drop the idea. =(
I really enjoyed that. Nice consistent art-style, steady introduction of the mechanics, short yet fun. Only change I'd make is making the point of the gun more obvious. It took me a while to go back over previous rooms shooting at anything I could to no avail before I spotted the broken wall - even if you had a random broken wall in the room with the gun to create the association in the player of "gun=destroys broken walls, therefore I must look for broken walls!".
@Casino Jack :
Thank you! =)
You're totally right about the gun, some people already complained about not understanding what it's for. And your idea of a random broken wall in the room where you obtain the gun is great, wish I though about it. =D
I liked it a lot, the only downside was the lack of a mute button. I use Pandora commonly, and having the turret sound effect come so randomly and loudly was rather annoying, and in the end, caused me to lose patience before finishing the game.
@cheater2478 :
Ouch! I didn't even think about a 'mute' option, what an oversight on my part. Sorry. =|
I like it. And I beat it. In the end, the teleporter is fixed. I wish I that the gun can shoot all enemies. :O
I would have liked to play this, but I can't deal with kongregates intrusive ads and spamming me to join the site.
@Killswitch :
Glad you liked it! I'll try and get more uses for the gun in my next 'metroidvania', I promise. =D
@KevinWorkman :
Sorry to hear that. I'm trying to build a 'gamebase' on Kongregate, that's why I uploaded the game there. But I can understand, Kong can be quite a hassle. =P
No worries. It's nothing personal against you, I just almost punched a hole through my screen after watching the hundredth forced video ad on kongregate during the compo.
@KevinWorkman :
"I just almost punched a hole through my screen"
That ALMOST just saved me, I wasn't going to have enough money on hand to pay for a new screen. =D

Nice work! I want to go and play metroid now.
