Ludum Dare 37 — December 9th-11th, 2016 — Theme: One Room

Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Waiter Simulator 2017!1!

by gcardozo - Jam Entry

Experience the stressful life of a waiter!

Tutorial:
Use WASD to walk.
Get close to a table that has a client and click on the table. Write at the
top of the screen the client's order, table number and the exactly client's observation.
Click out of the textfield (otherwise you'll keep writing while you try to walk).
Get close to the balcony and click on it to deliver the order for the cooks.
When the order is ready you will see it over the balcony, click on it and deliver it on the right table.
Pro tip: when you grab a plate on the balcony, the order description will appear on the top of the screen (so you know
which is the right table to deliver it).

In case you don't have a FLASH PLAYER (and you're on a Windows computer):
I've included a player inside the project folder, it's the "flashplayer_21_sa_debug.exe",
open it, go to File -> Open -> Browse -> "LudumDare37\bin\flash\bin\LudumDare37.swf" -> Ok

This game was made in under 72 hours for the Ludum Dare game jam. It actually took about 12 hours of development,
which explains a good part of its limitations.
The programming and game design were done by me: https://twitter.com/gcardozo_

Yo, some feedback: (you asked for it!)
-It's very hard to get to the game, I think no non-programmer will ever get to play it through a thousand folders
-When I'm writing, the character is still responding in 'walk mode'
-When I finish and want to walk, I keep writing (I end up with stuff like "With friesaaaaaaaaaa")
-Typo: Ligth speed
-Maybe use the table space for the speech bubble, just not to have the tables, characters, and bubbles overlapping and confusing the player
-Bubbles and food cover the table numbers
-Sometimes I get a "wrong plate" but I have no clue why it was wrong (feedback)
-Sometimes I have to keep rubbing the table and clicking to randomly get the order accepted
-The writing paper clears when I send the order, but not when I deliver the plate, so I have to manually clear it for the next note

#nitpick
-When customers leave they just leave a plate full of food
-Shouldn't the frames be about food? Is the restaurant owned by an executive robot? :p
-Some feedback about the scoring
-What's the game over condition?

I guess that's it, games are hard! Good job!

It looks interesting, but you shouldn't label your download as "Web" unless it runs in a browser. If you have to download something with the game be sure to label it "Windows" or "OSX" or "Linux" depending on what OS it's supposed to go with.

Eggplante, I didn't think about it. Thanks for commenting!

Cool looking sprites. Wish there was a real ending to the game. Good work for 12 hours though! I appreciated the attempt at incorporating typing with gameplay.

@MessinaBrothers, I was about to add a HUD timer, when the Ludum Dare timer expired!
It's a score based game, it ends after 5 minutes of gameplay and yep, it's little bit too much, I gess 2 or 3 minutes would be better. Thanks for playing, it means a lot to me! :D

I couldn't get an order to start, so just ended up with a room full of people with unfulfilled orders. Controls seemed okay and gfx/music were nice.

For some reason Adobe Flash Player doesn't recognize your project as a correct file type.

wow it was a really interesting game. very hard but unique. i loved the graphics, i liked the gameplay but i think it just needs a tweek or two, maybe a button menu for the orders. great game!

Nice and interesting game! :) Really hard though (which is not necessarily a bad thing), switching between mouse and keyboard.

Bug(?): Sometimes clients stack which may cause issues like one client being happy with right order and other one not? couldnt really tell since speech bubbles stack as well.

Pretty much the same as oelsons commented. The controls are difficult. Constant need to switch from mouse to keyboard.
