Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Bad Dreams

Nasty nightmares have stolen your precious room. You have to fight them and win back your room part by part before you can finally return to your sweet dreams.

Controls:
Arrow/WASD + spacebar.
Gamepads should work too.
Room parts selection suddenly works only with mouse, I've realized this only in the last minute and didn't have a time to change it, sorry.

When I had a choice in the last hours - to do the sound or testplay and fine tune game balance, I've chosen sound this time since it looked as more important part for this game. I just hope it is still playable most of the part.

Made with Godot Engine.
Graphics made with Krita.

Update:
I've screwed it after all, initial build was unbeatable due to bug. I've reuploaded new version with minor bug fixes:
- Fixed bug in waves count that caused game to freeze at the very end.
- Fixed bug with attack animation sometimes not played.
- Fixed bug in targeting code.
- Fixed collision layers, now ghost monsters should not stuck.
- Toned down attack sound volume.

About your comment on my entry: Yeah, the combat really needs some speeding especially since some mobs took quite a few attacks to kill. We'll definitely improve that later on.

About your game here: Really nice! Loved the art style and the sound effects (they're creppy lmao). Just the 'shotting' sound gets a little repetitive. Guess you could add some variations and/or tone it down a little?

Going for sound polishing was a good idea. The atmosphere is very important for such a game, and without sounds no atmosphere...
The gameplay is very simple but solid. I really like the art style. Nice magical girl magic wand there xD.
When the fighting is over, it seems that you need to click the room part to continue (spacebar didn'T work for me). That's not so good, but whatever. Overall great game!

The game kept me interested in what's going to appear next, so that's totally a good job! :)

The only thing which didn't suit the style is this weird blue cube with new items. Perphaps another colour would be better :)

Loved the graphics and loved the story. Gameplay is very simple and because it is a repetitive game it hasn't that much replayability.
I would just keep everything as it is and try to make the combat more fun .. besides that part Congratz! Very good game!

I like that the game does most of the aiming for you.
But somehow it still manages to get pretty hard later on ... it could have used a retry level mechanic, so you don't have to start all over again if you fail ...
I already got all the walls up and even the bed, but then I was overrun by more of these black things than I could handle.

Excellent art, especially a spider monster) But!

1) I can kill enemies even if they are not on screen, actually it's the only way to beat the game
2) Sometimes girl aims not the nearest enemy =|
3) There is no ending with picture of girl's pantsu or even a textbox "You win!" about my perfect skills ((((

ploy: actually there is ending, it just was unreachable due to bug :( Now it should work properly.
No pantsu though(hey, this girl underage!)

Gorgeous visuals and mood - by far the best atmosphere I've encountered so far. There's also something very satisfying about the monster-zapping and the light sources dispelling the dark nightmares was a nice touch. Good use of the theme too. The only disappointment was that it seemed to just freeze at the end. Anyway, great work!

Oh !!! That was a good game, I see we worked on the same "nightmares" idea.

I really love the work you did on the little girl animation, especially when she wakes up. And also this idea to recreate her room bit by bit, protecting her from her nightmares was really smart !

Good job.

I enjoyed this. The tone and ambiance was sufficiently eerie. Great spin on the contest theme too. Nicely done.

Really cool art and setting. Very neat. The shots took too long and had an annoying, repetitive sound, so I'd consider reducing shot time and make the sound less grating. Otherwise, I really, really liked the game. The animation and art were terrific, and the mood wonderfully dreamlike. The creepy doll-head spiders were great.

Love the art and game idea~
The gameplay is fine, but it's kinda fall off after a few stages... maybe auto aiming is too easy... and it even shoot enemy outside the screen~
Overall, it's a cool game, I had fun~

The best animation I've seen so far this jam! Once I figured out the mechanics, the gameplay was beatable, but was still intense. I do think that either some more enemy variety, or less waves would have improved the overall quality of the game due to the repetitive nature. The interaction with the different nightmares with the walls / light sources was a pretty nice touch though. I didn't realize my first play through that I was selecting which piece to get, my initial thought was that I was getting both, so maybe a active selection indicator would have been good there. Also, it's cool to see games made in Godot!

As everyone else mentioned, lovely art! I was actually browsing the Godot showcase for some odd reason and happened to find cat-o-pult, which was adorable btw, so I looked into your LD page to find this!

The animations and art are great, but the actual gameplay, while fun, is the weak point.

Pretty awesome little game. I especially liked the initial animation of the girl waking up.

Wasn't a massive fan of the ghost enemies which looked rather out of place when all the rest of the game was carefully drawn and animated.

I was also rather impressed that the game somehow remained challenging despite having auto-aim and enemies that died in one hit.

Thank you everyone for your warm replies.
Seems like no one saw ending animation yet, sigh. I know game balance is bad now, it was sacrificed in favor of sound and I still think this was a correct decision.

The art is really lovely in this and the spiders creepy. Makes you wonder whats going on as well as being a basic shooter. The sounds hurt my ears a bit and crackled on my computer. Nice work -RS

@Sun-Wukong, ending animation? IIRC it was the girl doing to bed right? I played it a while ago, and remember the art being great. But it was too easy because I just held down the attack key and became an auto-turret and the walls/lights helped too.
