Ludum Dare 37 — December 9th-11th, 2016 — Theme: One Room

Well, Mike ran in to problems getting working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Schrödinger: Story of a Ludum Dare failure

by kardfogu - Jam Entry

Hello everyone, Kardfogú's here!

I'm no longer counting the games. Actually 8th entry.
Typical solo jam. This time my friends didn't run their own entry, hence the solo jam.

Gameplay tips: /* You'll really need them if you want to finish fast! */
- talk to NPCs
- talk to NPCs again if something happens
- there is a secret ending and I won't spoil that, it's stupid anyways X)

Let me continue with the special thanks:
- My grandma, becase she is the best and she fed me during this 3 day and in general kept me alive. She is awesome.
- My senior for keeping the systems alive at my workplace while I developed this game. I wonder if anything exploded there...
- Morgoroth for being the funny guy he is.
- Ernesty the Creator for simply being awesome.
- Kittens all over the world, for inspiring me.

Sooo, let's continue with the introduction!

The PC Master Race exclusive RPG, Schrödinger: Story of a Ludum Dare failure merges science and insanity into a single room, bringing everyone the absolute best RPG experience ever.

Released for windows and consoles so new they will never exist - hence, the PC exclusivity -, Schrödinger: Story of a Ludum Dare failure continues the Slashalot saga with an epic story to behold. Actually it doesn't, but who cares!

Play as Player, the rectangle!

Lastly, but not least importantly, I can't release a Ludum Dare project without its anti-features.
- No gameplay!
- Nothing interesting to collect!
- Cute catgirl!
- There are no mythologically accurate - that is to say underdressed - female monsters this time, my apologies. We might later add that in a post-LD version.
- Really low quality sounds and music! This time it is so bad, it will drive you crazy!
- We don't even have grass or anything to walk on with a proper texture!
- Not-so-linear gameplay!
- Secret ending you won't even bother finding!
- The game doesn't even have enemies!

Well, that's... um... a failure, alright. A Windows failure, that is.

You should remove accented characters from all your filenames. (Specifically the ö's in Shrödinger.) It seems to break the RMXP decompresser, and even after decompressing it with another tool (hi 7zip) and attempting to repair the corrupted filenames, it just won't find the files.

Or that's what I assume is going on, anyways...

I'm working on it!

My apologies, I have removed the accented characters from the file names. Thank you.

Hm. As-is, still can't install the game normally. Simple solution though: rename the downloaded installer file (which still has an ö). It's kind of dumb, but eh. Windows logic.

Found one ending! Then sort of wandered around for a while, not really knowing what I was looking for. Still don't. Still in the box.

Original. Delivers on its promises. (Except the last one. Grumper's totally bad.)

Good work!

Cool, removed the 'ö' from the installer file as well. xD
Thank you for the help, sometimes it's not easy to find someone willing to help across other localized versions of Windows.

Honestly, I can't say I enjoyed it. I feel like there's potential for games that make fun of themselves to be fun, but this just screams "I made this in two hours". You had 48 hours man... you could do some amazing stuff in RPG Maker in 48 hours.

Honestly, you're not trying being honest. You try to roast me for no reason other than some weird frustration you might have. In 246 characters, you were completely unable to say anything constructive.

True, this is far less than what RPG Maker is capable or for example far less than what I would expect from myself. However, this was so far the worst theme for me and guess what, some peole have jobs and families damnit.

First of all, no, it does't scream of being made in 2 hours, because all sprites, graphics, animations are made by me. Also, the whole damn script which was a lot of work.
I encourage you to try the same in 2 hours. Spoilers, the script alone took way more.
You can't see any of the RTP used there, for the simple reason there is none used.

Also, I didn't have 48 hours, it's 72 for a Jam entry, but my family and friends took away a huge chunk of development time. Which I don't consider a huge loss, this Theme was my weakspot and I'll do better next time.

Also, next time, try to be constructive. Geez.

p.s.: I'm not going to rate your game for the simple fact that it wouldn't be fair. Normally I'm quite generous towards people with any kind of constructive criticism, as it helps in improving my future entries.
This wasn't criticism however. As such I'm not sure if I could resist the urge to search for mistakes in the game of yours.
