Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

ONE COURT. TWO SPORTS. NO FOULS.
Due to a scheduling error, the local rec center has been double booked for a charity basketball event and a karate championship! Luckily the players have the moves to please EVERYONE in attendance.
Its NBA Jam meets Double Dragon... It's SHUT UP AND SLAM JAM KARATE BASKETBALL!
CONTROLS:
- Arrows/Left stick- run around
- Space/controller B – Jump
- X/Controller A – Pass/Call for ball
- Z/Controller X – Goal/Karate!
STRATEGY:
- Karate the other team to steal the ball
- Pass between your team mate to avoid getting kicked.
- Shoot close to goal for better chance or jump into the ring to DUNK
SEADADS (this time) ARE:
- Louis Meyer (@louisdmeyer) – Art + BBall Consultant
- Dave Lloyd (@duzzondrums) – Code
- Jon Murphy (@nuclearfriend) – Code
- Ben Weatherall (@sunraheadgear) – Art + Music
- PaulDP – Art
- Adrian Vaughan (@yeoldshrimpeyes) - VO
The post jam version makes shooting more accurate the CLOSER you are to the net instead of the opposite :P Also fixes some exploits like passing to other end of the court... it's even HARDER now :D

Ok that's just awesome. Nice graphics and sounds, the concept is perfect and need to be continued
This is amazing. You should be proud of yourselves.
Wow! This really surprised me. It is very polished and the idie is hilarious. You should continue improving this. Very good work, congratulations!
Sick game. The offense lets you destroy them when they are inbounding the ball. This would be a super fun multiplayer party game if you added some more depth like blocking kicks or natural shooting motions. (Matt Barnes is pissed he didn't make the game)
Oh man this was so much fun!! Amazing work.
Art is great, music is great, sound effects and gameplay once again great!
Really nice game!
Even your icon is fun!
(a bit easy, and would like a multiplayer version, but so cool!)
Thanks for the comments guys, we are definitely considering a post-Jam version soon(-ish) with local multiplayer support, as we want to play that version ourselves too! ;)
This is just a beautiful piece of work. Great gameplay, even though it was very hard to get back in defence, and the graphics & sound were just amazing. Good work!
Great work, shouldn't leave it as just a game jam project. only nitpick is i can fire from almost anywhere and always score, making jumping a little bit useless, but as i said, thats a silly nitpick.
Ok, this is the shit. I'm amazed at the polish this game has for a 72h game. Got nothing to complain about, just plain awesome.
Awesome! the first jame game I've played that made me laugh out loud!
fun concept and great voice. just found it a bit hard to play:(
Really fun and addicting gameplay! Best game thus far from all the entries I've played! If something deserves to win, it's Karate Basketball! :D
This game is amazing. And in 72h! I can't believe it! Great job guys.
So Great! Can you add Blake Griffin in there for me? :D Love the commentary too. Superb.
FROM DOWNTOWN!!! Loving this. From the intro to the commentary you have nailed the feeling of the SNES Era sports action titles. Very impressed
Oh my GOD. This is AWESOME. I would legitimately play a fully fledged Karate Basketball game.
It's just GREAT. The voiceover was the cherry on top.
Graphics are cool as heck, audio is neat, gameplay is sick and polished.. I would play that a lot more.
And the AI is good too?!
That being said, the game is hard as heck ahah.
What an amazing game, hadn't had so much fun playing a basketball game since NBA Jam! Reminded me of the NES World Cup but with basketball :) A truly remarkable entry for a ludum dare, the game feels really polished, controls are spot on and graphics look great. Enjoyed a lot the humor, although the game is hard indeed! Would love to play this with 3 other friends, you should definitely keep working on a post-jam version. Congrats on making this!
This is incredibly well-polished. Getting a live commentary that A) works, B) isn't cringeworthy, and C) doesn't sound like it was recorded in a tin can is really impressive!
With a few more mechanics, I could imagine this being really fun as a local multiplayer game. The incorporation of the theme isn't the best, but other than that this is a great entry!
Wow... amazing entry. Tough as hell AI, beautiful art, funny sportscasters - incredible what you accomplished in 72 hours!
Super fun game, the game feel is on point. I ran into quite a few bugs including:
- Dunks sometimes counting as 3 pointers
- The ball spawning at the wrong end of the court after a basket
- Noone getting the ball off the tip-off and noone being able to pick it up off the ground afterwards
- The ball getting stuck on the hoop
But none of these really were enough to break the game experience for me. However, what did make it less enjoyable was when I figured out that you could shoot from basically anywhere and it wouldnt matter. I found it easier in fact, to hit three point shots from over halfway as soon as I got the ball. I would suggest adding in a power bar to make you have to wind up for longer shots and give the player more control over whether the shot misses or not, as well as reducing the accuracy of shots from further out. Also, no idea how the game relates to the theme. That said, a really fun experience.
Yep.. really the only downside is that it has no relation whatsoever with the theme, which is really the thing I take the most into account for a game jam.
With that said, it's just incredible the amount of work you put into this one. It's polished in every aspects unimaginable, the voices are great, the feedbacks are great. Only the gameplay needs some more polish as it's a bit hazardous (but making a sport game work in only 3 days is already an exploit!).
So yeah, regardless the theme, a fantastic entry that could definitely become a stand alone game!
Yes, the you can kick your opponents in the nuts best game ever!!!
On a more serious note, great work, graphics look great, it controls well and it's fun to play. If you added some new abilities and animations it would be pretty damn close to NBA Jam which is awesome, keep up the great work!
Awesome work, the audio is great!
Could be great if you could swith players too.
This is incredible. Sooo polished. My only complaint is seeing my main boy Delly on the same team as Green... that's some Twilight-Zone stuff to me!
Amazing ! I can't believe you made it in 72h :) ! Very funny (i loved the nut shot :)). Graphics are awesome. The best game I rated in this LD, and by far.
WOW! I really really love this game. Unfortunately I'm on OSX so I can't play the post Jam version right now. Going to try it later on. Needs multiplayer!
Ha this is awesome, loved the initial setup and then the presentation of the main game was great as well. My only complaint was that I couldn't seem to miss, that said scoring a last second 3-pointer for the win is a sweet feeling.
Hahahaha, this is too perfect! Who knew Draymond could sink 10 half court shots in a row after practicing his natural shooting motion, and Delly could dunk on fools. I love everything about this.
Very good. Kinda difficult at the begining but on third try I won. Love the comments and audio.
Back in the Middle Ages, when my brother and I played Nintendo World Cup on a crappy NES clone, our strategy consisted of tackling all rival players until they were lying down injured, so we would just be able to score at leisure with special overhead kicks.
Here we have a different sport, but I'm sooo happy to see the same spirit on this entry :_D
The game is quite solid as it is, with great graphics and sound, but just to give some feedback, it would be nice to be able to give some simple instructions to your teammate (or switch control).
I hope you keep working on this, it already shows a lot of promise and the concept is hilarious.
Congratulations!! :D
Thanks for the lovely comments everyone! We are working on it more, tried some local multiplayer out and it's pretty fun :) We'll put a new version up in itch when it's ready. Just wish it wasn't so hard to find the time! -Dave
