Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.
Use mouse to control.
An engineer is voluntarily locked in a room to finish his life's masterpiece machine. In order to finish the project, he must keep working on it while maintaining his hunger and thirst.
Game has been made purely in C (see the source) with my own tiny game engine called "Punity".

Amazing atmosphere, just stunning. The sound effects and art really nails it. This must be the best LD37 game I have played at the moment!
It tooks me a while to understand which object does what, but after that it rocks! The sound, the graphisms, the atmosphere... A big punch in my face! Great job.
I've removed most of the dependencies from the framework (now it runs only on bare Win32 API). Hopefully it'll fix a lot of problems.
I really like the atmosphere of this game, although it was very difficult (at least for me). Fits the theme very well.
Perfect! Simple but interesting gameplay, awesome graphics and amazing sound.
really good. but I couldn't get out of the "eating just to eat more" cycle
Amazing graphics and atmosphere!
Gameplay itself is nice, but I must admit it wasn't loads of fun. A few times I got into a state where I had no energy and couldn't make more food. Maybe garden shouldn't need energy? Also it's very hard to visually tell what each machine does.
Great, moody graphics and minimalistic, repetitive gameplay.
It was fun finding out how it works, and then grinding only to be surprised what the "Project" really was...
Amazing all around entry from one person. wow.
The game is super polished and the art is fantastic. Had a hard time understanding how everything works, but overall is a super solid entry, well done! :-)
Lovely style and atmosphere - wasn't quite sure what I was doing though. Great work!
It was fun trying different stuff out and figuring out how to keep all of those bars full. Really great atmosphere, although I didn't quite understand the ending (the sideways text was hard to read).
Absolutely loved the atmosphere in this game. The pixel art looks fantastic. I had a hard time for awhile. I worked on the project first, so I assumed that all of the actions required you to stand there while the bar filled up. But, eventually I figured out I could just activate everything else and it was a breeze. Nice job! The sound effects were really great too.
I'm adding in-game help so it'll be all a bit more clear and self-contained.
Thank you all for kind comments and giving the game a chance. <3 <3 <3
Great tiny management game! Love the atmosphere and the ending :)
amazing dark mood and cool ending !
Finished the game in 3:30!
Impressive, even used your own engine in C, damn.
Game had a great atmosphere and great art.
Music was fitting.
Gameplay took me a bit to figure out, but got it in the end.
I think you could improve the explanations by just using icons. like if you need 1 food for a machine, it shows 1 food icon with a minus. and you can do the same for the energy you get.
I didn't finish the game because it was pretty hard. It made me curious though as to what this projects he's working one was.
@jeroenwimmers: It takes a bit of using to, but standard finishing time is around 3-4 minutes. Anyway, thanks for giving it a go. (Btw. here's a gameplay video with spoilers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HQOo0XBLyM)
You created an awesome atmosphere and mood- 5 starts there! Nailed the theme - art is great. The audio- 5 stars, this is a great little game. Reminds me of Gods will be watching a little bit.
The game itself was not very challenging once you got in the mode- once I realized I didnt have to wait for the food energy and water to produce I got along fairly easily- just walk over start them all then keep working on the project.
This is an awesome introductory level- would be rad if things got more challenging should you continue on with the project. I really liked the experience though- great work!
This is seriously awesome! Definitely worth checking out. Died a few times before figuring out a system. (bio fuel?)
@Haddy22: Yah, I kept the balance fairly low (and there are still people who consider it too hard). Cannot make everyone happy. But at least more people got to the end I spent so much time on. Don't worry, I'll be working some more on the game to add stuff I didn't have time for (that should bring more strategy and choices in). Anyway thanks a lot for the kind words, much appreciated! <3
Man, this is tough as heck... but man is it well done and polished; The art is fantastic, music cool, it's all very atmospheric... I'm really curious about the ending, but I don't see myself able to finish this ahah.
Congratulations.
First off I have to say I'm very impressed you created in this game in pure C. This was a fantastic game! I really enjoyed the strategy aspect of it. Everything was beautiful! Its all pretty amazing for only being made in 48 hours. Good Job!
@Ellian & @KunoNoOni: Thank you! I'm happy you liked it! <3
I can confirm it running perfectly on Linux.
WOW this is just amazing for being done in C. I will definitely be checking out your engine, I'm sure there's a lot to learn from it. The game itself is just about as polished as 2D games get and the gameplay is very challenging. Well done.
Mac build not running for me =(
Shame this looks really good.
Amazing entry! Gorgeous art and the background audio really enhances the mood of the game.
(Windows 10)
@Pixtopher: Mac should be running now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Simple, but amazingly efficient. And those pixels are so pretty. Good use of the theme. Not too long to become boring, almost relaxing, and nice music. Great work.
The art in this was incredible and the audio was of similar quality. And while the gameplay was quite simple and it seemed to be the best strategy to just have all the machines running as much as possible, it is quite impressive that you managed to not just do all the audio-visual stuff but also wrote this in something as low-level as C in this short amount of time.
Just tested on Ubuntu 14.04 x64, but unfortunately the audio didn't work... I tried to rebuild it, but failed to do so since my SDL2 is still on version 2.0.3...
I'll definitely play this again on Windows, for the complete experience. :)
What stood out for me was this game's atmosphere. The graphics and the survival aspect really create an isolating environment.
The game balance never really let me think I was fine. Even when I had foraged enough food and water, I was always worried if it would be enough...
All around, well done! =D
(And it's was good to see more games made in C! I'll definitely check your lib later :D )
Really well polished with gorgeous art and music. Really captured the atmosphere of a dank engineer's lair. The gameplay was short but sweet - I completed my masterpiece on the second try. Great game!
This game does so may thing so very well: The atmosphere it builds, the graphics, animations, the sounds. They all work together so amazingly - supporting the gameplay. You really want to get to know what you are building, what happened, where you are. Good job!
Everything is perfect in this game.
Amazing game even if not in a game jam.
Maybe the best I have played in last several LD.
Really love the ending.
Best entry I've seen so far with a big margin, especially for a Compo. The mood is awesome thanks to the super stylish pixel art and greeat audio fitting the game well. Just loved it :)
Wow. Wow. Best game I've played during this LD, maybe any LD I've participated in. Good freakin' job! The art, the atmosphere, the gameplay, the story... just amazing. I hope you take this further, because I would love to see a bigger game with this idea or something similar.
Wow, One of the best so far! Really enjoyed it.
The mood was so cool and the audio too, graphics blown me away. Thank you and congrats :D
Fantastic all-around for a compo! Graphics are excellent, as are the sound effects and music.
I died the first couple of times before figuring out that I didn't need to wait by the non-project machines. I think I got confused because my first move was to work on the project, which locks you, and then I erroneously assumed all of the other machines were like that.
Once I realized how to really play I was able to build the machine and experience the end.
Really nice entry! Great evocative mood, snappy controls, and an interesting little set of interconnected systems to toy with. Well done.
Oh god, I didn't expect so much praise :) <3 Thank you all for kind words.
@pkenney: Yah, I already have steps planned for the extended post-LD version that should remedy the lock problems. I'm sorry for that :( But congrats to beating it, I hope the ending was worth it. <3
Incredible game! The art style and the atmosphere are amazing! Congratulations to the team!
Great graphisms and atmosphere ! Once you understand the mechanics, it's not that hard to reach the end :)
And the end was pretty funny. A good entry !!!
Really great atmosphere and polished game overall! I loved the ending, put a smile on my face xD
Well done!
Great looking and solid. It didn't have much depth but it was a nice experience.
Wow, really nice entry. I really liked the pixel art graphics and the atmosphere. Great work! Amazing that you did this in 48h, really impressive!
Beautiful atmosphere, but I think I've played too many "take care of the needs of the person in this room" games already.
This entry is absolutely brilliant. The gameplay is rather simple but it's working so well.
Everything in there is super well done, there is not a single rough edge which is quite a feat for a LD.
I think everyone here can appreciate trying to feed themselves while obsessively working on something.
The ending caught me off guard, and I was confused until I saw the tie in the the title. I liked this game a lot, and it's hard to find anything to be critical off. I guess the gameplay felt a bit flat. I was constantly running back and forth doing the same actions, but that was what created the games feeling of incessantly working on a project. Great job!
very good entry, a cool ressource management game.
I like the mood and the graphics are just amazing!
the post-compo version isn't too challenging though
technically this game is amazing with a fantastic mood. One of my favorites. I had fun playing it. Well done ++
Beautiful artwork, great music, great atmosphere, kept me interested till the end.
Good work
Played the compo version, i figured out what the machines did pretty quickly but there was just no way to work quickly enough to stop the hunger/thirst from creeping in. Nice concept though, loved the aesthetic.
Lovely graphics, very interesting game! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 37 games, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/Ysp76gwDV8M
I also included this game in an article of my favorites! http://fireside.gamejolt.com/post/jam-favorites-ludum-dare-37-gwqmcmek
