Chest Quest!

by Jamie Rollo - Compo Entry

Chest Quest! The best chest based quest west of the rest!
Chest Quest is a game based on old school super difficult arcades.

Move: arrow keys / left thumbstick

Attack / Start: z / space / gamepad buttons

How to play:
Attacking with the hammer you can break open chests, flatten enemies and pound pegs into the ground. To proceed, pound all pegs in the area into the ground and head for the pad at the end of the room, this will change the blocks in the room into a new challenge.

Touching a monster will kill you, last as long as you can with three lives!

(You can skip levels by pressing ctrl+y)

I really enjoyed the game! I died on stage 4 :(

I like that it gets more in depth as the game goes on, the power up bubble and blocks that you can't break through forcing the player to go specific routes.

A really awesome concept that's simple and well executed. I can see people wanting to get all the chests!

The only thing missing for me were the sound effects and music, that would have made this even better!

Great job!

Really fun game.

Animations and sprites were the highlight for me

controls were a little slow, but fun concept

The visuals in this are great, but the gameplay felt very clunky to me, mostly due to the controls. It's sort of halfway between grid-based movement in the vein of a roguelike and free control, which ended up causing me to get stuck halfway between tiles when trying to change direction.

I also feel like there wasn't much attempt to incorporate the theme: the room itself doesn't really have any special properties or feature prominently, and there isn't much reason to see the different levels as one room.

On a positive note: the controller rumble was a nice touch to give the hammer smashes more impact in the absence of audio!

That was great. Really got the old school arcade feel going there.
