Smiths 'R' Us

Welcome to Smiths 'R' Us, a game made specifically for Ludum Dare #37.

The objective of the game is to control your Master Dwarf to complete orders of the villagers that decide to put their trust on you. You have a rundown workshop componed by a single room, and you're forced to sleep in the corner.

Once a villager comes in, he'll ask you a specific weapon. This is indicated by an icon on their head, and on the side of the interface. Each 'slot' on the left is for a specific customer. In it you can see how much they're willing to pay for the item, how much you will get fined if you fail to deliver, and their patience, in form of a slider.

As the customers get more impatient, they'll start offering less and less for the item they requested, so make sure you hurry up! Should their patience completely deplete, they'll storm out of the shop, forcing you to pay a penalty.

You have several Dwarves at your disposal: a Smelter, a Smith, a Leatherworker, a Carpenter and a Master Crafter. Go close to them to see what they can craft!

Game is fun. The inventory UI is rendered under the list of orders on the left so you don't see ore. Add tooltips for actions. Games should feel intuitive and shouldn't require the player to read three paragraphs of instructions to understand how it works. I also found building weapons took a little too long and the customers would eventually leave. By the time I finished the sword of the person in the front of the line, the 2nd person has left. This has a ton of potential and I'd definitely play it in the future. Good luck.

Terrific graphics and gameplay concept. I found it a bit hard to learn, personally, but that's probably just me being lazy. One of the more promising-looking games.

Nice idea for a game. Seems a little imbalanced. I'm probably doing something wrong, but it seems nearly impossible to get the entire weapon forged before the customer loses interest, and there doesn't seem to be a way to stockpile weapons before a customer arrives.

Neat idea, but the clunky menus ruin it for me.

If I could give each station an order while I'm carrying something, instead of it just saying they don't have an order, this would be waaaay smoother and more fun to play.

I love this game idea! I don't like the controls. It would be nice if the numbers you need to press appeared in the corner of the menu items and I also noticed the orders covering the ore when you go to the stock pile. The lack of sound didn't take away from the game and adding it would only make it better. I urge you work on this post ludum dare, there is a lot of potential here. Great Job!

Awesome idea, although the 1-handed keyboard controls are a bit awkward. Using the mouse at all would make it so much smoother.

Great game and concept, like the graphics.

I've struggled with the controls, I think that switching to mouse controls could make it a lot more easier and fun.

Fun game concept. I think the UI is nice but some things need polish, like how the orders disappear if you press the wrong key. It took some getting used to.

You have a lot of depth here, especially for such a short time you had in the construction of the game. I had a hard time figuring out the controls -- specifically how to grab elements for the recipes so I could get started. It kind of reminded me of a Dwarven Overcooked.

I like the idea of controlling a single person and stressfully managing a store.
This type of game requires progression, as it stands it the same scenario gets old quickly, but the core mechanic is interesting and would stay fresh with some variety as you go.

Nice idea, with good graphics, but the current version is too hard...

The menus are a bit clumsy and buggy (on my last playthrough the carpenter menu refused to open). Things that would be nice:

* Have the number on top of each weapon
* Accept mouse input on the menus
* Have an easier way to drop what you are carrying
* Show the whole cost upfront (eg. it would be nice to know if I need 1 or 2 iron bars).

Some audio would also have been cool, but I understand that you ran out of time, I also always leave the audio part to the last hour ;).
