Ludum Dare 37 — December 9th-11th, 2016 — Theme: One Room

Well, Mike ran in to problems getting working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Basement Floor One of One

by Jajo - Jam Entry

Wow, this took more time than I thought it was. Well, while I should have been revising for a history exam, I found the time to make this game in between revision.

So the theme of "One Room" was slightly tricky, as I had already made a quite detailed plan that involved dungeons with MANY rooms. Therefore, I decided to meet halfway and just make each dungeon with only one room- the boss room.

The goal of the game is to defeat the earth dragon in his dungeon. There are two side dungeons- fire and ice- that are not compulsory, but I recommend trying them out. You start in a goblin infested cave- not a challenge at all- and stumble out into a clearing in a forest. Use your apparently infinite supply of fireballs to destroy enemies.

Movement: WASD
Shoot: SPACE

Well, I enjoyed this jam, and I'm positive everyone else did. Good luck :)

Well first off, the game doesn't respect the theme (as you stated yourself).
The graphics are very simple and not really unique.
Audio is basic sfxr generated stuff.
And finally performance is awful for a game like this (I was dipping to 25 fps).

This is obviously one of your first games so all those things are rather normal. I would suggest you take a hard look at your code regarding performance and even move away from Java altogether. Also remove the categories you don't want to be judged in (Audio, Graphics?).

Last point: I'd like to try again when I lose, not restart the game.

I apologize if I sound harsh, you actually finished your game, many didn't.

Don't worry, I've been coding a good few years and I know where I went wrong everywhere, I was just in a complete mad rush, as stated :)
Harsh criticism is appreciated, thanks :)

Didnt have any performance issues, but when i walk against a tree and shoot the fireballs, they are really slow.
