Ludum Dare 37 — December 9th-11th, 2016 — Theme: One Room

Well, Mike ran in to problems getting working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Space Attack

by laylow - Compo Entry

Click the full screen to play the game, I can't set the correct height on LD.

Embark on a quest through space in a rather cramped ship with the noble goal of saving a desperate group of asteroid miners!

the embed is a little too large for the screen and I had dialogue size issues, but this was great! First LD game I played for a significant amount of time. The dialogue mixed between levels was awesome. I think there are some balancing changes you can probably do (shields seem kind of underpowered) but for a compo game this looks and feels great!

Thanks! Yeah, not sure how to fix the embed...making it full screen works though. This was my first time doing dialogue so thanks for the compliment! Balancing is definitely an issue, especially for something like LD where you need to create artificial easiness to speed a playthrough and gameplay that still is challenging.

I love the idea, but It feels a little too hectic.

I think it may have been better if there was a little bit less stuff, but I'm not sure.

The dialogue is awesome though and it does feel great when it isn't too hectic.

A slightly slower pace could help a lot.

Good work.

I really like the idea. It's got a turn-based feel to it. It would be really awesome if it were turnbased. I haven't heard of a space exploration turn-based strategy game (focused on survival like this). And you are good in story telling. This can be one helluva concept to create a fantastic game. Congrats on submitting your game.

I really like the idea, but the implementation gets a little too rough, especially once your ship is almost completely full and there's enemies at every side.

Was an fun game. I love spaceship management stuff. I did find it to be a bit easy if all you did was try to move around the repair modules a bunch

Very cool concept. Nice execution. Hard as balls though. Couldn't quite get through the final levels. Once the ship gets crowded it's also difficult to move things around in time. Maybe that's intentional.

This game had a good story. The game play was a little too fast. I beat it on the first try by just moving the repair modules around. If the enemies came a bit slower and the damage took a bit longer, it might become more of a strategy game. The dialog is pretty good, but I spent more time reading dialogue than playing. Was it supposed to have no sound?

Thanks for playing guys. It was definitely hard to balance and was the last thing I did. Some people say it's too hard and some too easy, what to do!

It's also fast on purpose, I know you people want to play as many LD games as possible ;D

Took me a couple of minutes understand how the mechanic works but when you understand it's a really deep and good game!!

also ... i don't know if it's an error or what but i can't hear anything...

It felt a little awkward moving things around, like sometimes I would try to move something and it would move something else instead. It was just a minor thing though, and overall I had a lot of fun playing the game. The witty interludes were also a plus.

This is a really cool combination of inventory puzzling and fighting. Definitely one of my favorites.

Fun game!

Needs sound though! Try using sfxr or something similar -- even small sound effects would have made a big difference.

I had a weird issue where the left side of the text box was off the screen when I put the game in full screen. But then when I went back to not being in full screen the game fit somehow.

I did find it funny how the ship kept getting fill up with more and more junk. I didn't find it that hard though, I guess my initial strategy and placements kinda just worked.

Good progression of diffuculty with the filling up of all of the slots of the ship. Does get very hard and I feel like the controls work against you a bit sometimes. Was a lot of fun though.

Not bad! It gets crazy pretty quickly, but a neat idea. I wish it was easier to move the modules around, right now it feels a little slow and frustrating, in a game that demands speed. Nice little prototype though, keep at it!

Very nice entry, it's a pretty tricky puzzle, and a little stressful. My only advice is add time where the player can peacefully modify their ship, other than that good job!

I felt overwhelmed playing this game, but reading Captain K's dialogue I wonder if that's intentional. If I could move stuff around with the mouse cursor instead maybe it would be more comfortable. Good fit for theme, good dialogue.
