Well, Mike ran in to problems getting working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Room Blitz

by ohmmus - Jam Entry

-=== Room Blitz ===-

You are SWAT-BOT, a robot designed for only one thing: breaching and clearing rooms full of bad guys. You are being tested in an efficiency simulation. It's designed to test your tactical skills before you head out into the real world.

The ONE test ROOM :: cough :: is reconfigured each time you clear it, offering a new tactical challenge. Bad guys drop "sim coins" each time they're shot, which you can use to buy more ammo and/or time.

High clearing rates will let you pass this test.

- A / D: Move Left/Right
- Mouse: move crosshairs
- Mouse Left Button: Shoot
- Spacebar: Jump
- E: Set and detonate breaching charge

HTML5 link is included for convenience, but I had trouble making it run at an acceptable framerate. The Windows executable runs much better. Mac and Linux builds are possible, I just haven't set GameMaker up to build for them yet.

Tools Used:
GameMaker Studio

Fun, but there's not enough time! Very cute sprite for the main player.

Thanks for the play, Mark O.! I think I should re-title the game to "game development simulator" based on your feedback, haha.

How would you fix the time problem? more purchasable time in the "shop" screen?

I didn't know you could buy stuff! I still think there's too little time. Or rather, when only two enemies appear, I don't earn enough coin. Hope that helps!

awkward to control. why am i both using a mouse and keyboard for this control scheme where just a keyboard would be enough?

Fun game! Time seems a bit random, sometimes it's way more than enough, others it runs out half way through even if you hold down D the whole time. Played through the room 5-6 times, not bad for what it is. Running animation is a bit funny when pressing A and could use some music though, but I like the classic style of graphics and sound.
