Well, Mike ran in to problems getting working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

MattThePie's House Party

by MattThePie - Compo Entry

MattThePie presents "MattThePie's House Party"!

You play a considerate but hungry host of a party eager to gather all the partygoers into a single room to arrange a takeaway pizza order. Change the music, light a fire, lay out some drinks, anything to entice them into a room of your choice - but unfortunately your guests each have quite different tastes!

-- Download the folder and run the .exe in the "Release" folder. If this doesn't run try the Debug instead (working on this)

WASD or Arrow keys to move. E, Space or Enter interacts. Esc exits the application (no time for menus with this game). Note that once someone is in a particular room they will be reluctant to move and will need a big incentive (or disincentive to stay!).

The game is written in C#, in a 2D engine written by myself and my good friend Haighstrom, CoakEngine. This is an OpenGl4 graphics engine with OpenTK used to wrap all the C++ functions of OpenGL. I'm really pleased that finally the engine is holding up (only one or two awful bugs this time!) and I can start making more and more complex games in it.

Graphics were made with AseSprite, available on Steam, which I cannot reccomend enough for sprites and pixel art. The one sound effect, the music track, was generated with cg music, so no credit there for me.

As usual this has been a really fun challenge, and I spent far longer making content than ever expected. Of course there's a whole boatload of polishing that could be done to it, but it does seem to function as a whole game. Winning is possible (I've done it) but pretty hard (even with access to all the stats!), it'll take some time. I would love to hear your feedback and ideas for how this could be better.

I got the pizza sorted! Just curious, does the game have multiple solutions? I thought I was trying to funnel everyone into one particular room (based on the things they were saying) but they all ended up somewhere else.

Well I think only one room is viable, without wanting to spoil it, but with the 'stay-put' mechanic I cna imagine several might be possible. Congrats on beating it and cheers!

Pretty nice idea!
I didn't manage to get everyone in the same room, but I did manage to have some fun!

A bit large hitboxes on the player and the objects in the scene. Alwasy got stuck on something.
