Well, Mike ran in to problems getting working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Guns n' Crates

You play as a 1930's Mobster during the prohibition, a rival gang came in the clandestine bar where you play piano to steal all the alcohol crates, but you just can't let them get away with it !

Protect the booze :p !

Changelog 0.4 :

-The controls issue has been "fixed"
(you can reverse the directions setting to your liking by pressing the TAB key)

-The overlay has been revamped to look more "streamlined"

-The scoring system has been lightly altered

Controls :

Use the arrow keys to move between 3 positions, each allows you to shoot a different object hanging on the ceiling.

Shoot with the spacebar

Time your shots well to crush ennemies with falling objects, don't let them escape with crates, 5 crates lost = game over.

we tried our best to recreate a retro game feel, we went for a sort of "Game&Watch" gameplay meets "Gameboy" Graphics for this one cause we thought that monochrome went well with the setting we chose ^^

Better than any Tiger Handheld games I had as a kid! Although the cursor not matching up to the ceiling object that would fall was a bit confusing, it was still fun! Loved the art. After 21 baddies the game seemed to glitch and stop spawning them.

Very cool looks. It would be great if there was some feedback when you'd hit a guy with something, them just dispapearing is a bit underwhelming - especially when everything look so nice.
What am I supposed to do if there is nothing spawning at the ceiling anymore but there is still a baddie? Happened a few times - or is this a bug? If not, this is a deadend and feels bad.
I really like the style of the game and the attention to detail to the made up handheld.

Yeah I got that old Game and Watch vibe from this. Loved that. It seems like when I target the first thing the last hanging thing falls and when I target the furthest thing the closest hanging thing falls. I know you said there was a targeting bug but is this the same thing?

@Pajama-Lama: Thanks :) we thought the handheld really fitted the theme so we kinda chose this setting to match the idea of a monochrome console with the old black and white mobster movies ^^ glad you liked it.

@ursagames: Haha thanks ! well at least it's cool to see people think we didn't do worse than the old tiger consoles :p, as for the cursor, if you tried the latest patched version, it should be fixed, as well as the baddies not spawning after 21.

@Logicon: Thanks glad you liked the game :), if you tried the latest patched build, these issues should normally be fixed.

@stupidmindlessf: Thanks we did our best so glad you liked it :), but yeah it might be missing a bit of visible feedback on some elements, as for the ceiling items not respawning, and the weird baddie behaviour,these are glitches, which should be fixed in the patched builds.

@ObsessiveNerd: Like said before, really glad that people like our "handheld" idea for this theme :), the targetting thing you experienced is the glitch that was mentioned in the description, the patched build should normally fix this.

Thanks to all of you for your feedback, really appreciated, we'll try as we tried every LD to post some patches whenever we can, so feel free to give us more feedback about any bug you encounter :)

Interesting core mechanics. The art is cool, though the color difference between background and characters could have been greater, so they'd be easier to see.

@PaidGEEK: Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked the artstyle :) we already have a colour difference between the sprites and background but it isn't really that much visible indeed, we'll try to tweak it to improve the game's readability

The targeting for the left and right positions were switched, don't know if that was intentional or not. Either way, pretty fun game, and AWESOME artwork. Good job!

@rodobodolfo: Thanks :) we went for simple mechanics to be sure to get something playable on the LD release, we had problems on past LDs with too complex systems so we tried this, and people seem to enjoy it ^^

@HotByteDog: Thanks glad you liked the style :D we always go for the retro feel when we can, always nice to see people go on a trip down memory lane :)

@tylerraz: Haha thanks :) nice to see that people seem to like our team logo as well :p , the music is a placeholder we added at the last minute, it's ment to go with one of our other game projects, so it might change for a more appropriate one if we get some time to compose one ^^

@mar3k: Thanks always nice to see people like the game :), the overlay itself has been a bit tweaked from the LD release to the patched build and might have a few revamps, but glad you liked it as well.

Nice game, I got 66 bad guys. Really reminds me of a crappy commie handheld game that I had as a kid, both with the visuals and the twitch gameplay.

I didn't know the game has already started when I first launched the program. I kept hitting on the start button hehe. This really reminds me of my old Game & Watch handheld. I miss it so much! I love the graphics and the sound is pretty good too.

@roaringcatgames: Thanks glad you liked it, we try to tweak it a bit from update to update to reach a certain balance :)

@sP0CkEr2: Thanks, always appreciate to see poeple liked the game, as for the controls, we just released a new build with the option to reverse them at will (some people seem to like the reversed controls so we tried to keep both so everybody could get the gamefeel they'd want)

@Tezra: Yeah we didn't have time to implement a startup screen like we've wanted for the LD version, we wanted to focus on getting something playable (avoiding our past LD mistakes :p) funny how you mentionned the buttons of the console itself, we had in mind to make them functionnal but scrapped the idea early on to get the gameplay done before any other feature. Anyway glad you liked our entry, the game & watch thing really seem to have pleased people ^^ as for the sound, we made the sfx were added a bit late and the music is one of our "placeholder" music we composed for other unfinnished projects :)

Thanks to all of you once again for the feedback, don't want to sound like a broken record ^^ but the comments mean a lot to us so we really want to take time to awnser them whenever we can :)

Great entry. Love the art and interface. The decision to keep the mechanics simple was a good one and that was probably what allowed you to polish the game as it is now. The download link provided on this page seems to still have the left and right ceiling objects switched when shooting.

Seemed a bit too easy for me, but overall I liked it and it was fun :)

@fabsy: Thanks always happy to see people liked it ^^ yeah we definitely managed to polish the game a lot more this LD because of the simpler system, we also had better luck (aka less random issues) with our source control this time around.

Noticed the download link to the patched build didn't show up, fixed it (a bit late sorry) the latest build patched the issues you mentioned, as well as the unbalanced difficulty :)
