Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.
I used Clickteam Fusion to make this. I learned about its drawbacks and benefits, including quick prototyping and its overall pretty slick system for designing the game's visual layout and UI as well as... well...
In trying to make a unique mechanic in having a customizable layout of a ship (somewhere between FTL, mech games, and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime), I learned that doing anything I'm used to in conventional programming (Java) is extraordinarily difficult. I built a sort of postmortem in one of the screens in the game, but essentially the program has a complete inability to process data as easily as it should be able to. On top of that I had many issues with events just not triggering for no apparent reason, which you will see in the game over screen. For the life of me I cannot figure out why, when in every place I could have put it, the trigger for that screen just would not activate. Even worse, sometimes it would work when I changed one line only to not work a second time. If anybody else has any experience with this program and can attest to either my own incompetence or the program's shoddiness, I would greatly appreciate knowledge on the matter.
Ugh.
Oh boy. Well at least I learned something. And this LD I actually got a semi-working and playable game relatively easily, so that's an improvement.

I can see what you were trying to do here, and it's good that you followed through and published what you had. Keep up the work.
Good Effort!
Can't say I've completed every LD game I've ever started, not by a long shot :)
I rated you high on innovation because I thought your concept sounded fun
A shame you ran into problems; nice that you explained in game why it didn't relate to the theme. Java certainly isn't the easiest choice. Keep learning and you'll get there though.

I like your goal for this game and think a product more similar to what you described would be really fun, but as it is now this game seems very underdeveloped, Keep up the hard work though and maybe eventually you can get this to your goal :)
