Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Santa Packaging, Inc.

by Alistesios - Compo Entry

Hello everyone !
This is my third participation to a Ludum Dare, and I worked to finish this one. I'm glad of the result.

The theme was not really inspiring in my opinion, but I managed to get a quite good idea out of it. Enough with the talking. What's this ?

You are Santa (how original!), and you are in charge of packing all the gifts you are going to give this Christmas... You're locked in one room, trying your best to avoid bankruptcy !

4 types of packages, 3 types of items, you have a lot of commands to do ! (Quite an infinite number, actually). Each command that you realize succesfully (putting the gift in the right pipe) gives you cash (because your elves are not free, heh !). Avoid bankruptcy as long as you can by completing commands for kids !

Be careful, the room you are locked in might quickly be filled with packs, and different items, making it harder as time goes !

This is my attempt at Low-Poly, I learned Blender on the fly during the weekend. I used Unity's shaders for the Cel-Shading graphics. Assets (sources & models) are included, if you want them...

I hope you have fun playing "Santa Packaging, Inc." !

These controls are very difficult, arrow keys and E and the mouse all at once? It would be a lot easier to play if it was WASD+E+mouse. Very good tutorial.

I wasn't able to play the Mac version. "Application cannot be opened". It seems like you have zipped the contents of the folder, not the complete folder itself (Mac applications look like folders on Windows). Let me know when/if you fixed it :)

Here is a bit of hopefully constructive criticism:
1. W,A,S,D is a must. I had a hard time switch my hands all the time to press 'E'
2. It would be interesting if the turial ended not by pressin escape but by interacting with the door at the end (just an idea)
3. I like your lowpoly style but the packages and pipes are too bright and look bad when they are together. Look on the cobination of walls and ground - you did really good there because both colors are "gray-ish" and they just go together. So it would be better to use "gray-ish" form of red, green, and blue for the pipes and packages. It would fit the color scheme better :)
4. Sometimes I had to fill an order, but there were no spawned green package or no teddy bear .. so I would just make sure that you request things that are already spawned or spawn the required things when you generate an order.

Oterwise I really enjoyed the gameplay :) It was fun playing it!

Ok so seeing everybody's telling me it's better to use WASD, I will change the unity input to WASD asap. Seems like because of my AZERTY keyboard, input was set up to ZQSD automatically ... Also trying to fix the mac problem but i cant really figure out how this all works ..

The controls worked for me. I had more problems with all of the gifts and wrappers coming to fast. I wasn't able to control this job. No gifts this year kids! Nice idea and funny music/sounds :) (and I appreciate that you were able to do all this on your own!)

I was unable to run the osx version, either I'm dummy or there is something wrong with the mac build.

Unlike the others, I didn't have any issues with the controls - WSAD + E worked just fine for me.

Loved the Christmas theme - I didn't play the tutorial but the game itself was pretty intuitive so the tutorial wasn't needed. :)

This is an idea that could be further developed, it has the base for a fun game, especially if there was multiplayer. The wrappers and tubes were responsive when I brought them objects, which is nice to see.

The problems I had with this game is that the controls are just too slow to keep up with the frantic nature of the game. Also I found that my mouse didn't get captured in the window which caused me to click out more than once.

nice game

Nice idea! One funny thing for me is that my game could be the second part of yours, hahaha! Merry Christmas!

Hahah, I loved the chaotic atmosphere! The gameplay was fairly simple, but the fact that the lonely santa was soon drowning in orders (and toys/wrappers) made the whole thing feel hilarious. I also really liked the music, although I kinda wish it played a bit louder while in-game.

Nice one! Great tutorial, very easily understandable. I don't think the controls could be better. The graphics are nice to look at and seem geared to each others, that is good.
At the end I got behind, so there were lots of wrappings laying over each other. You have to tear them out of each other to get the right one, which can be quite a fiddling. But other than that: Very good game!

P.S. As all the Author pages are broken, I will use this to inform you that my Game Bob's Burgers should be fixed now. Try the first download, thank you and have fun!
