Well, Mike ran in to problems getting working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Bedtime Fright

by misteak - Jam Entry

You are a kid whose greatest fear is being in dark places.

Only one thing stops you from leaving all of the lights on at the same time: your dad.

In order to be allowed to sleep, you must face your fears and leave only one light on - the one in your bedroom, of course. Just be mindful of the path you take around the house, or you may end up in big trouble...

the team:

marcelo-pelli - code
misteak - art + animation
mayfury - art + level design
rubens-stephan - sound

took us some time to come up with something that we liked within the theme, but we think it was worth it. it was an absolute blast working on this project. I hope it shows :)

for now we just have a web build, and it has been tested (and works) on chrome and safari. we're not sure about firefox.

good luck to you all, and have fun!

Best game so far. Every aspect of the game is really well done. To finish a game that has multiple levels requiring level design on each one is a really tough task, and you guys managed to do it. The only thing that I thought didn't make sense was that you could "die" on the room where your dad is. I know it would make the level design a little more complex, but to make more sense, that should be a safe room.

But overall this is a great game!

I was truly blown away! Every aspect of this game works so well. Level design is just top notch.

Nice and easy. Perfect retro style.
Scary sweet music.
Where did they get all the lights and have no furniture?
I go to bed now and leave the lights on :-(

Hey everyone, thank you for your kind feedback! We are really happy and humbled by your response so far :')

@Guennor that's a good point. We hadn't thought about the Dad too much when we added him to the levels, he was a kind of last minute feature to mark the "end" room in each level. It would be cool to rethink the levels with Dad protection in mind :D

@HotByteDog hahaha, they were out of money for furniture after buying so many lamps! But really, we ran out of time for furnishing every level. We'll definitely release a post-jam version with cuter and more decorated levels.

Really cool! Simple mechanics that work well, love the art and the feel of the game. I don't know how many levels you guys designed, I'm in level 20 now, that's some fast level design! Dad can't protect you, he's a monster too (twist!)

@Nixxor yeah, the game itself doesn't take place in a single room. we felt that making 'one room' the objective of the game would allow us to explore the most interesting/different idea we had.

our other ideas for the jam were cleaning a room, a single-room dungeon and a game where you have to make a room grow as much as possible.

It's fantastic! For me, the most incredible game until now, a simple idea, but much fun and defiant! Good Job!

It feels wrong that the ghost can catch you in a lit room, but otherwise, wow! Super solid entry. The puzzles are well design, it plays great, the music is good and graphics are fantastic! All the congrats, this was great.
