Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.
Plot
------
You are confined in a small room with only 2 coins and some seeds. In the room with you, you see a dispenser where you can put items in, and it will give you another item in return. There is a little opening on the ceiling you can use to escape. But, to reach that opening, you must somehow build a ladder. And how do you build a ladder? You farm (obviously)! Learn about the objects around you as you go along, and use that knowledge to farm your way to freedom!
Summary & Info
---------------
Here is 'Farm To Freedom' my game for Ludum Dare 37! It was created entirely from scratch in Java. I think this is my best game yet in terms of art (except for the horribly drawn player - all my ludum dare games have horribly drawn players :P), audio and game mechanics, so I'm really proud of this game. :)
Controls:
WASD or arrow keys to move.
Everything else is controlled by the mouse.
This game has no tutorial - you are meant to learn how to play and how things work/interact with each other as you progress.
However, I will give you 2 tips:
1. Pay attention to the info bar in the bottom left, and the text at the top of the screen - they will teach you a lot.
2. Don't go AFK while letting a large amount of coins produce. This is because if there is 1000 coins on the ground waiting to be collected, the game won't produce any more coins to prevent lag.
Requires Java and a minimum 1280x720 display to run.
Programs Used:
IDE - Eclipse
Art - Gimp
Audio - Musescore & Audacity
Have fun! :D ^-^
UPDATE
------
One of my friends played this and mentioned that it's annoying not being able to see the prices of things you can't afford in the shop, so the prices are:
Seeds - $10
Upgrader - $30
Fuel - $200
Wood Generator - $500
Ladder - 50 logs

I tried programming almost the same game! You probably already know this but when you move with both arrow keys you can actually faster than one direction. You can fix this by multiplying your velocities by 1 / sqrt(2).
Interesting game. Seems like a slightly more interactive clicker. My only complaints are that there's a ton of waiting and micromanaging
This game was really fun! I loved the pacing, at the start even getting 5 coins is exciting but by the end you're getting so so much more.
Slow at the start but by the end I was only able to see gold :p. I liked the audio the most :). You should try to convert this into a mobile phone game.
I enjoy idle, and this was kinda what that was. I thought concept was good, just start feels way to slow. Also, would be nice if cost was displayed. Played this on linux, and found that it was laggy/choppy. For this reason it would of been nice if I didn't have to run around to collect xD
Game pace is a bit too slow to my taste. But overall, it is a great entry ! Well done !
Really great game. It was a bit slow, maybe it could be a bit faster
It was a little too slow for my liking, but overall good job :)
Cool insight on the cookie cliker minus the click type of game. If you focused more on the progression of the game and used more basic graphics (like geographic shapes or more basic pixel art) it would probably be better. The music is nice, helped with the flow of the game. The screen resolution was absurdly high for a windowed mode and some of the text got cut on my monitor (1366x768). It has potential to be a web game with mobile friendliness with the right amount of care.
Hey, I could download the game?!
can you check the link?
I made a game for Ludum Dare as well!
Check it out here:http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-37/?action=preview&uid=124049
Please rate fair I'm only 14 and learning java for a year now!
Very nice entry. Reminded me of Stardew Valley. I like that the game is kind of slow paced and not rushed, though well balanced. Great job!

Thoughts during play: Very slow to get going. Pretty nice music (even though I had to tune it down). Plant upgrader is actually $30. Would be nice to be able to place multiple seeds without reselecting the item.
I do enjoy farming games, so this kind of digs into that. It's fun, just not too special.
