Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Hard Unit

by internetpaulicy - Compo Entry

This is the sort of thing where I wanted to make a game called Hard Unit. Everything else was secondary. The game certainly works, it has sound effects and decent graphics and animation. It plays alright. I stayed up late.

Enemies march down the screen into this room-like-place where you are obviously confined. Its basically space invaders except you have a twin stick shooter type of guy.

Move with the KEYBOARD and aim and shoot with the MOUSE. If you hit SPACEBAR you do a slide but only if you are moving already.

TLDR Its not a joke game although the title is a bit silly. MOUSE + KEYBOARD. Enjoy.

Its easier than Contra.

It was cool at the start, but after couple minutes I got bored. Cool monsters.

Okay, I can understand wanting to make a game called Hard Unit. It's a good name. Unfortunately, shooters need to let you hold down the fire button to not be physically painful. Plus, tying fire speed to clicking speed means it's a lot harder to balance the game. It looks like you put in some solid work, so it's a bit of a shame to see it let down by something like that. : c

There is an autofire power up.

This is one of my favorites: good graphics, nice powerup system, effective audio, and fun to play! Once I got a few powerups I found I was able to just stand at the top firing sideways and maintain that forever; would have been nice if the sides were also possible entry points.

I do have enemies that can come in and seek you out. Near the end I had to start cutting features. That's how it goes.
