Hedge Maze Overlord

by Turkey - Compo Entry

Welcome to Hedge Maze Overlord! In this game you are a futuristic hedge maze caretaker who owns a indoor, infinitely changeable hedge maze! The premise of this game is simple. You have noticed that a little boy is trapped within your maze and running around helplessly trying to avoid your seemingly unresponsive skeleton machines that wander the maze to scare and challenge visitors. It is now your job to manipulate the maze by placing in walls to help the scared child find the exit while also preventing him from running into any of the skeletons. You have been successfully able to hack the machines controlling the maze layout so that you can place walls where you please, but unfortunately you can only spawn in a certain amount of walls (you decide the amount) and each wall only stays in place for 2 seconds before needing 3 seconds to recharge. Can you save the boy?

I kind of really enjoyed playing this. The simple idea of a maze game with an added twist. This was a pleasant surprise.

This was a fun twist on mazes. I think the graphics could be better, more obvious where the exit was. The gameplay was nice though.

Interesting game, the concept of maze master can be implemented in a puzzle game.

Pretty cool idea! I beat it at the default setting. I tried it at 25 skels but that was too hard for me haha. I think a tweak that might help a lot is have the collision boxes for the skels and boy smaller that if I place a box last sec they don't go through as often. Keep up the good work!

Fun little maze game, the graphics were serviceable and I only found one little bug that wasn't a great big deal with placing walls too close to the characters. Kids would really get a big kick out of this game.

Nifty concept, and was quite fun to play. The exit could be a little more obvious, visually. Sometimes I tried to block the boy too late, but it would still drop a hedge on the tile that he was in. It would've been nicer if it wouldn't permit dropping a hedge on an occupied tile, so I don't lose it for 5 seconds.

The graphics were a little too basic to enjoy. It's clear what things are (aside from the exit), but you'd actually have a pretty viable puzzle game if you could implement some better art. Sound effects were equally basic, but that was less of an issue.

Nice job, I hope you continue with this game.

Very nice idea! Good gfx and sfx. I like that the game is polished and includes everything: help screen, main menu, options, hall of fame.
